Putting aside his bitter relationship with Shahid Afridi, former India opener Gautam Gambhir has wished a speedy recovery to the former Pakistan allrounder after he revealed he had contracted the novel coronavirus. Shahid Afridi, on Saturday, took to Twitter to reveal the news.

Shahid Afridi, who has been busy with his charity organisation Shahid Afridi Foundation, revealed he had been feeling unwell with a severe backache over the last few days and that he decided to take the test for Covid-19.

“I’ve been feeling unwell since Thursday; my body had been aching badly. I’ve been tested and unfortunately, I’m covid positive. Need prayers for a speedy recovery, InshaAllah ,” the former Pakistan captain wrote.

Messages have been pouring in for Shahid Afridi as soon as the news became public. And Gautam Gambhir also made sure to wish the Pakistani cricketer a speedy recovery from the virus. Speaking at Salaam Cricket 2020, Gautam Gambhir said he might have his political differences with Shahid Afridi but he doesn’t want anyone in the world to be affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The former cricketer-turned-commentator also pointed out that Pakistan need to help themselves first before helping India. Recently, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan surprisingly offered to provide monetary help to India.

“Nobody should be infected with this virus. I have political differences with Shahid Afridi but I want him to recover as soon as possible. But more than Afridi I want every person infected in my country to get well as soon as possible,” Gauram Gambhir said.

“I have to worry about the people in my country. Pakistan has offered to help India but they need to provide help in their own country first. They have offered to help and I am thankful for that but first they need to eradicate the cross-border terrorism,” he added.

Gautam Gambhir and Afridi, nonetheless, share a fiery relationship. Neither of the two leave a single chance to take a shot at each other since the infamous feud between themselves in the Kanpur ODI in 2007. Time and again, one has seen Gautam Gambhir and Shahid Afridi taking a swipe at each other.
