I Want to be the New Ball Bowler Who Can Bat as Well - Deepak Chahar

It’s been long in international cricket since a new ball bowler had batted well. Meanwhile, the newbie in the cricketing block, Deepak Chahar wants to get that role for team India in the limited-overs format of the game.

Deepak Chahar stole the show when he played for Chennai Super Kings under the guidance of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. He bowled exceptionally well with the new ball and also showed his skills as the batsman as well. His heroic knock came against Kings XI Punjab when MS Dhoni used him to counter the opposition’s momentum.

The right-handed fast bowler quoted he is eyeing to enhance his skills in the batting department as well to sustain in the competition. India has got the pretty strong squad in the ranks and to remain regular in the side; one should have X-factor in them to cement their position.

Further, the youngster recalled the days when MS Dhoni used to send him up in the batting order. He also revealed the confidence given by MS Dhoni during his stint in the Chennai Super Kings.

“I got runs in one of the IPL matches. Mahi Bhai sent me up the order. This year, I hope to get more opportunities with the bat to prove myself. The team gets balance when fast bowler bats well too. This is a terrific Indian side. You are always expected to behave like the No.1 side in the dressing room. Look at the options the team has and the depth in the squad. It won’t be easy for me to be a regular,” he said.

“I am working really hard. The IPL has helped me a lot. When IPL was not there, debutants used to feel the pressure playing in front of big crowds. But with the IPL, you have already experienced that pressure before making coming into the international circuit,” he said.

MS Dhoni’s influence on Deepak Chahar:

Meanwhile, Deepak Chahar also gave his credits to MS Dhoni for trusting in his ability. He revealed how MS Dhoni boosted his confidence to make it big with his talent.

“He (Dhoni) used me so well in the IPL and he is always effusive in praise of me. When Dhoni Bhaiya speaks highly of someone, people take it seriously. He made me play all the matches and later told me that he wanted that. He had told the management that Deepak will play every game,” Deepak Chahar quoted.

”That matters a lot. We won the IPL and performing in the IPL matters. I have been doing well in domestic cricket since a long time. If you have to play for India, you have to also do well in the IPL and show that you can handle pressure,” Chahar said about Dhoni’s influence in his fledgeling career.

However, it has been a great ride for Deepak Chahar in his cricketing career. The flamboyant cricketer is making baby steps in international cricket and waiting for one good series to show his worth to the world.
