Speculation is rife about Sourav Ganguly’s tenure as BCCI president. The former India skipper took charge of the board last October and his tenure will end this month, according to the Lodha Committee recommendations.
As per the Lodha reforms, a three-year cooling-off is mandatory after the completion of six years in office – state association and the BCCI combined. Before becoming the BCCI president, Sourav Ganguly had served as administrator in the Cricket Association of Bengal and is thus required to take a cooling-off period.
However, there is little clarity over his future with the BCCI. Just like Ganguly, BCCI secretary Jay Shah also needs to undergo a cooling-off period as his tenure ended in May. However, Shah is still holding the post. Recently, Alka Rehani Bharadwaj, the nominee of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) in the council, had expressed her reservations over Shah holding the post.

Sunil Gavaskar on Sourav Ganguly as BCCI president:
Amidst all the speculations, legendary batsman Sunil Gavaskar has opined that Sourav Ganguly should continue being BCCI president as Indian cricket faces challenging times. He also stated that he would love to see the former India skipper continue as the board’s president.
“The Supreme Court of India’s decision to postpone the hearing of several applications by the BCCI and some of its affiliates has also left Indian cricket in limbo. Sure, there are many more important cases than cricket before the highest court in the land but Indian cricket lovers are anxiously awaiting the decision,” Gavaskar wrote in mid-day.
“Personally, I would love to see Sourav and his team carry on till the end of the 2023 World Cup in India but let’s see what the court decides. Just like Sourav lifted the Indian team after the early murky times and restored the faith of the Indian cricket lovers, so also he and his team look capable of doing that with the BCCI administration,” he added.
