International Cricket Council (ICC) have dismissed serious match-fixing allegation naming an Australian International and official statement that there is ‘no credibility’ of such accusation.
The ICC’s anti-corruption chief Alex Marshall had a chat with Cricket Australia boss James Sutherland to inform him that any link with Australian cricket has been officially ruled out.
Their claims presented in a dossier to the ICC included that there were plans to spot-fix the third Ashes Test at the WACA, that the Big Bash League was a target for corrupt figures and that an ex-Australian international cricketer and an official had alleged links to match-fixing.
Sutherland said he was pleased with the verdict but not surprised.
“The ICC has a duty to investigate things to get an understanding whether allegations are credible. As as I’m aware what they’ve done and what they’ve been able to ascertain from day one, is that nothing’s changed. There is no credibility to the allegations,” Sutherland stated.
Meanwhile, cricket from next summer will take a new look as it will start with limited-overs international in November.
The summer will kick off with either T20Is or ODIs followed by the Test series against India in December. It is likely that the first Test will be at Adelaide Oval, followed by Perth, Melbourne, and Sydney.
Then for the first time in some years, there will be Tests played through January, with Canberra and Brisbane to host against Sri Lanka. It can be the first Day-Night Test series.
However, some Test cricketers will miss the tour match in South Africa leading into that four-Test series, while they play T20Is against New Zealand and England.
“The way the schedule works, we’ve got a very clear picture of how it all pans out and selectors will form their own views on where all the players are in terms of their preparation and transition back into Test cricket. What we do know is we’ve got a clear hierarchy in the way we prioritize things and Test cricket is the No. 1 thing. International cricket stands above domestic cricket and Test cricket stands above all the other formats of international cricket,” Sutherland signed off.
