It wasn’t the wisest of decisions from Afghanistan cricket board to give the captaincy reins to Gulbadin before the World Cup. Naib inexperience as the leader of the side was clearly palpable. The right-hander promoted himself as the opener and did a good job for his team. He scored 194 runs in the nine innings. However, Naib could not deliver the goods with the ball as he was on the expensive side. He scalped nine wickets in as many innings.

A lot was expected from the southpaw opener. However, he could not deliver the goods with the bat. The left-hander scored 96 runs in the five matches at a poor average of 19.20. Subsequently, he was dropped from the playing XI as Rahmat Shah and Gulbadin Naib went on to open the innings.

Hasmatullah Shahidi – 6.5/10

The southpaw batsman was able to impress with the bat. Hashmatullah Shahidi scored 197 runs in nine innings and gave the solidarity in the middle order. In fact, Shahidi was able to score two fifties in the World Cup as he was one of the consistent batsmen for Afghanistan. However, Shahidi’s strike rate was not impressive as he chewed a lot of balls to get going in his innings.

Asghar Afghan – 4.5/10

The southpaw batsman was the most impressive batsman of the Afghanistan side. Zadran had a touch of class in his batting as he was able to time the ball to perfection. The left-hander scored 230 runs in eight innings as he batted at the top of his game. However, Zadran got a chance to bat in the lower order and he should have batted for Afghanistan in the middle order. Thus, he could have scored more runs for his team.
