ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 (Match 17): Australia vs Pakistan – Statistical Highlights

i) Pakistan’s 266 runs (45.4 overs) is their highest second innings total in Cricket World Cup history. Their previous best was 264/6 (49 overs) against New Zealand (at Auckland on 21st March 1992).

i) Aaron Finch’s 82-run is the third highest individual score by a captain against Pakistan in Cricket World Cup history. The top two record holders are Ireland’s William Porterfield (107 runs at Adelaide on 15th March 2015) and New Zealand’s Martin Crowe (91 runs at Auckland on 21st March 1992).

ii) Aaron Finch scores most ODI runs as an Australian captain against Pakistan as he has scored 533 ODI runs as a captain against Pakistan. The previous record holder was Ricky Ponting with 504 ODI runs as an ODI captain.

iii) Australian opener David Warner scored 107 runs in this match. After Andrew Symonds (143* runs at Johannesburg on 11th February 2003), David Warner becomes the second centurion for Australia against Pakistan in Cricket World Cup history.

iv) During this match, David Warner hit his 15th ODI century and all of these centuries have scored as an opener. Warner is the third Australian batsman to score 15 or more ODI centuries as an opening batsman. The other two Australian openers are Adam Gilchrist (16 centuries) and Mark Waugh (15 centuries).  

Pakistan

i) Mohammad Amir had the bowling figures of 10-2-30-5. It is the second best bowling figures by a Pakistan pacer and fourth best bowling figures by a Pakistan bowler in Cricket World Cup history. As a pace bowler, Pakistan’s record holder is Wasim Akram with the bowling figures of 9-1-28-5 (against Namibia at Kimberley on 16th February 2003).

ii) As a no.9 positioned batsman, Wahab Riaz scored 45 runs. It is the highest individual score by a no.9 or lower positioned Pakistan batsman in Cricket World Cup history. Shoaib Akhtar was the previous record holder who scored 43 runs after coming to bat at the no.11 position against England at Cape Town on 22nd February 2003.
