The Pakistan Super League’s history has been marred by controversies, and the drama surrounding the league just refuses to calm down. In the most recent edition of the PSL, another fiasco emerged when a mobile phone was used to make a call from within the dugout, whilst the match was still going on.
This incident happened during the match between Karachi Kings and Peshawar Zalmi on Saturday. An official from Kings’ dugout used his phone and from the visuals, he appeared to be talking with someone over the phone.
The whole cricketing fraternity was shocked upon seeing such visuals however this is not the first time when the PSL has come under the scanner.
Controversy after controversy within the PSL 2020 :
In the series of dramas surrounding the PSL, before the start of the tournament, England cricketer Alex Hales who is also a part of the Kings franchise had shared a picture of a massive fire just a couple of miles away from the UBL Complex where he was putting up, on his Instagram story.
The snap had a rather sarcastic caption, “looks promising”. And now, the latest incident that happened in the Kings’ dugout has put the PSL in bad light once again.
However, in the latest development regarding this story the International Cricket Council (ICC) have decided not to interfere in the matter.
ICC will not intervene in the matter:
The ICC has cleared their stance by saying that PSL is a domestic league, and thus it does not fall under their jurisdiction. Hence the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) should be the ones to take action.
“It’s a domestic match and as such an issue for the PCB,” the ICC official said as quoted by Cricket Next.
Moreover, right after the match where this incident happened, Kings coach Dean Jones defended the member. He took to twitter and explained the whole incident.
Jones’ tweet read, “Like in ALL T20 cricket. The manager/CEO is the only one allowed to have a phone. In this case Tariq… our CEO is doing work. Here he is organising us practice times for today. Thanks for your concern.”
As soon as the incident went viral on social media, fans and experts from across the world had deemed it as a display of misconduct.
However, the ICC certainly gave their verdict, and will not intervene in the issue.
