New Zealand speedster Mitchell McClenaghan who is an express fast bowler expressed his desire to bowl two bouncers in a T20 match. He hoped that we lived in a world where he got the opportunity to bowl a couple of bouncers an over to the batsman. Taking to his twitter handle, McClenaghan wrote, “I wish we lived in a world where bowlers could bowl 2 bouncers in t20 cricket.”

Replying to his tweet, the International Cricket Council (ICC) took a sly dig at the Kiwi fast bowler saying that the home of cricket perhaps needs to update the laws relating to the size of the bat. “Perhaps the @HomeOfCricket will need to update its laws relating to bat size,” the official twitter handle of ICC wrote in their reply.

Mitchell McClenaghan hopes for a change in the law

It must be noted that there was earlier no restriction on the bat edges. The edges at times had become as thick as the bat face. However, the ICC has now given limitations on the size of the bat edge to bring back more competitiveness between ball and the bat. With the evolution of the bats, the game has tilted towards the favour of the batsmen a lot more.

The boundaries have also reduced and hence the batsmen always tend to get a chance of clearing the fence even with mishits. In T20 tournaments we have witnessed, several mishits going over the boundary ropes.  The simple reason is the bat size is much improved than the earlier times. However, there has been no such change in the laws for the bowlers. Neither there has been any change in the medication of a match ball.

Meanwhile coming back to Mitchell McClenaghan, he is a speedster representing New Zealand in international cricket. He is also an integral part of the Mumbai Indians squad in the IPL. The left-arm speedster has been quite consistent for the three-time winners. In all likelihood, he will be retained by the franchise for the next edition of the tournament.
