ICC U19 World Cup 2020: Five Register Duck As India Bowl Out Japan For 41

Favourites India, on Tuesday, proved their title credentials in the ongoing ICC U19 World Cup by making light work of debutant Japan with the ball. While the defending champions were the red-hot favourites to win the ongoing game, very would have expected such an easy outing for them.
Japan’s batsmen just could not handle the Indian bowlers after India skipper Priyam Garg won the toss and decided to bowl first. Openers Marcus Thurgate and and Shu Noguchi managed to keep their wickets intact till the fifth over. However, once Kartik Tyagi dismissed Thurgate, the floodgates opened.

On the very next ball, Tyagi dismissed Neel Date to set the tone for a stunning bowling display from the Boys in Blue. Japan kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were eventually folded up for just 41 in 22.5 overs. Five of their batsmen could not even open their account.

Noguchi and Kento Ota Dobell top-scored for Japan by scoring seven each. For India, leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi was the pick of the bowlers as he took four wickets for just five runs in 8 overs. Tyagi picked up three wickets while Akash Singh picked up a couple.
Earlier, India had started their campaign with a thumping 90-run win over Sri Lanka on Sunday. Batting first, India scored a competitive 297 for 4, riding on half-centuries from their opener Yashasvi Jaiswal (59 off 74 balls) and skipper Priyam Garg (56 off 72 balls). There were significant contributions from vice-captain Dhruv Jurel (52 off 48 balls) and allrounder Siddhesh Veer (44 off 27 balls).
The bowlers then kept the Sri Lankan batsmen under check, bowling them out for 207 in 45.2 overs. – Akash Singh, Siddhesh Veer and Ravi Bishnoi picked a couple of wickets each.
