Australia defeated India in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 final after a dominant performance in the grand finale at the MCG. Meg Lanning’s team racked up a humongous total of 184 runs after which the Indian ladies folded for just 99 runs following a run chase.
As a result, Australia won yet another Women’s T20 World Cup title, and five of the Australian cricketers have been named in ICC’s World Cup 2020, Team of the Tournament.
Skipper Meg leads the team, which has just one Indian and South African player, and ironically four England players.
ICC released the Team of the Tournament via a tweet on their official Twitter handle.

Here is the ICC T20 World Cup 2020’s Team of the Tournament:
1) Alyssa Healy
Australian wicketkeeper-batswoman Alyssa Healy was chosen as the player of the match in the final, courtesy of her 75 run knock which came off just 39 balls.
The 29-year-old scored 236 runs throughout the World Cup, at an impressive average of 39.33.
Healy also inflicted seven dismissals in the World Cup, thereby justifying her place in the Team of the tournament.
2) Beth Mooney
Beth Mooney was named as one of the openers in the World Cup’s team of the tournament courtesy of her exploits with the willow. She scored 259 runs in the tournament, at an average of 64.75, helping her team reach the final and win the World Cup as well.
Her tally of 259 is the highest among all players at any Women’s World Cup in history. Mooney picked up the player of the tournament award as well.
3) Nat Sciver
Nat Sciver scored three fifties in four of England’s matches??thereby helping her team reach the semifinals. She finished the tournament with 202 runs, with an average of 67.33.
Unfortunately, rain washed out their match against India and the English team were eliminated due to an inferior points tally in the group stage.
4) Heather Knight
English skipper Heather Knight was equally as instrumental as Nat Sciver in the team’s run to the semifinal. Knight scored a century against Thailand in the World Cup and was in devastating form throughout the tournament.
She will feel hard done by after England were denied a place in the final, especially because Knight scored 193 runs with an average of 64.33.
5) Meg Lanning
Australian skipper Meg Lanning contributed 132 runs to the cause, at an average of 44, but her place in the Team of the tournament is completely justified due to her leadership as well. Lanning scored a few runs, but important ones when the team needed their skipper the most.
She scored 49 runs in the semis versus South Africa, a crucial knock, which helped Australia reach the final and beat India to win a historic fifth T20 World Cup title.
6) Laura Wolvaardt
The South African player scored just 94 runs, batted just two innings, but did enough to work a place in the Team of the Tournament. Laura struck 53 against Pakistan, taking South Africa to the semis, and there she gave Australia a headache as well, hitting 41 runs.
While South Africa narrowly missed out on a place in the semis, they will have to thank the 22-year-old whose timely performances were some of the best innings of the Women’s World Cup.
7) Jess Jonassen
Australian bowler Jess Jonassen scalped 10 wickets throughout the World Cup and was crucial in her team’s win in the final versus India. She picked up three wickets in the final alone, giving away just 20 runs in her four-over spell.
The 27-year-world was a consistent player for her team, taking at least one wicket in each game. This kind of dominant performances won Australia their fifth World T20 title.
8) Sophie Ecclestone
English spinner Sophie Ecclestone was a menace for opposition teams as she picked up eight wickets throughout the World Cup, at a decent economy rate of 6.12. Aged just 20, the sky is the limit for a player who has taken at least one wicket in her past 18 T20 matches.
Ecclestone is currently standing at the top of ICC T20I rankings for bowlers, after an impressive outing in Australia.
9) Anya Shrubsole
Another English bowler who was equally as effective in the World Cup, Shrubsole amassed eight wickets at an economy of 10.62, helping England to the semis. She has inflicted 41 dismissals in Women’s T20 cricket, the highest ever tally by any player in World Cup matches.
The 28-year-old and the whole English team will be left to rue what could have been, after seeing Australian dominate in yet another World Cup final.
10) Megan Schutt
Australia’s Megan Schutte was arguably the pick of the lot in their final against India, as she picked up four wickets, giving away a paltry 18 runs in 3.1 overs. Overall, she amassed 13 wickets at the World Cup, with an economy of 10.30.
The 27-year-old’s tally of 13 wickets wasn’t bettered by any player, highlighting Schutt had a big hand in Australia’s triumph at home.
11) Poonam Yadav
Rounding off the ICC World Cup’s Team of the Tournament is Indian spinner Poonam Yadav, who despite having played the tournament with a plate in her finger, was a crucial figure for her team’s run-up to the final.
The 28-year-old scalped four wickets versus Australia in India’s opening World Cup game, three against Bangladesh and one each in the next games. Poonam ended the tournament with 10 wickets to her name.
12) Shafali Verma
India’s teenage sensation Shafali Verma set the stage alight in her maiden World Cup, finishing with the tally of 163 runs in six matches. The 16-year-old recently romped to the top of ICC rankings for batswomen in T20Is.
Despite her blistering starts, Shafali couldn’t convert her impressing innings to big knocks, and thus India fell just short of the title against Australia. She was included in the Team of the Tournament as the 12th player.
