India have been the team to beat in the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. The Women in Blue have been the only team so far to have won all of the four group games. Along with India, South Africa also won their first three games before their fourth one against England was washed out on Tuesday.

Both India and South Africa are in semifinal along with hosts Australia and England. India will take on England in the semifinal while South Africa will lock horns with the home side. However, rain could play spoilsport in the semifinal. No reserve days have been scheduled for the last-four clashes with the extra day only allocated for Sunday’s final at the MCG.

Both the semifinals are set to take place at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Thursday (March 5). But the weather forecast for the day is not at all promising. As per weather reports, 15-30mm of rain is expected for Thursday’s semi-final double-header in Sydney. So there is a big chance that rain might play spoilsport on Thursday.

What happens if rain washes out both the games:

If both games are washed out, then the higher-ranked team from the two groups will progress to the final. Under tournament rules, the group winners progress to the final if a match cannot be completed. Thus, India and South Africa will lock horns in the final if both the semifinals are washed out. India finished on top of Group A and South Africa finished on top of Group B.

Unlike playing conditions for normal T20 Internationals, which would require just five overs per side for a legitimate match, the rules of this ICC tournament require 10 overs per side in knockout games. So if there is heavy rain on Thursday, one can say that the games might not be completed and India and South Africa will take on each other in the title-decider.
