Left-arm spinner Jess Jonassen and opening batter Nicole Bolton were the only two additions as Australia named an ICC Women’s World T20 2018 squad similar to the one that took on New Zealand recently.

Meanwhile, Jonassen recently missed the three-match T20I series that Australia won 3-0. A knee injury sustained during the practice session forced her out of the series. However, she will have the opportunity to test her fitness during the ODI series against Pakistan later this month.

Australia have named a similar squad to that of the T20s for the series against Pakistan.

Furthermore, Bolton, who has so far represented Australia in only two T20Is, also received a call-up to the 15-member squad. The selectors retained the rest of the 13 players from the T20I series against New Zealand.

“There are only two players that come into the ODI and T20 sides that didn’t take part in the recent series against New Zealand, which is really pleasing as it means we have a stable playing group who are gelling really well,” said national Selector Shawn Flegler.

“Nicole’s generally been considered a 50-over player. But she has put in a lot of work to improve her short-form game. Jess is recovering well from her knee injury and will join the squad in Malaysia, with the aim to have her playing in the two warm-up matches in the West Indies,” she added.

Shawn Flegler also sounded confident and with some youngsters added, she is hopeful to lift the cup.

“This is an exciting group of players who’ve played very good cricket in the T20 format, over the last six months. And with the injection of some youth we believe this group has the right attributes to have a successful World Cup,” sheconcluded.

Australia have also named a similar 14-member squad for the ICC Women’s Championship 2018 against Pakistan. However, Jess Jonassen is the only to miss out due to the injury.
