ICC Women's World T20: Three Indians In Team Of The Tournament

Updated - 25 Nov 2018, 04:35 PM

Three India players- Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur and Poonam Yadav – made it to ICC Women’s World T20 2018 dream team.

The first standalone ICC Women’s World T20 ended on Sunday with Australia lifting the trophy. The team from Down Under dismantled England by eight wickets to lift the trophy for a record fourth time. Batting first, England were all out for a paltry 105 before Australia chased down the total in 15.1 overs by losing just two wickets.

It was not  a very clinical show from Australia on the field early on as they dropped a number of catches and miss-fielded but England’s players failed to capitalise on the chances. Only two of their batters – Danielle Wyatt (43) and skipper Heather Knight (25) – managed to reach the double-digit mark. England were eventually all out for 105 in 19.4 overs.

Ashleigh Gardner starred with the ball, picking up 3 for 22. She had dismissed both Wyatt and Knight to end England’s hopes of scoring a challenging total.

Australia lost their in-form Alyssa Healy cheaply. Healy fell for her lowest score of the tournament when she was bowled for 22 by Sophie Ecclestone while Beth Mooney (14) was caught behind off Dani Hazell. However, Gardner and Meg Lanning did not let England capitalise on the early breakthroughs.

Well, with the competition coming to an end, the ICC revealed the team of the tournament. India and England have the most number of players in the team with three each. Australia have two in the side while Pakistan, West Indies and New Zealand have one players each. Bangladesh’s Jahanara Alam is the 12th player in the squad.
