ICC World Cup 2019: Andre Russell Ruled Out Of The Tournament, Replacement Announced

West Indies talisman all-rounder Andre Russell has been ruled out of the tournament. Russell had struggled with his knee injury throughout the tournament and he is finally ruled out. Consequently, Sunil Ambris has been named as the replacement for the gun all-rounder.

Meanwhile, Russell was in sublime form in the Indian Premier League and he was expected to carry the same form in the World Cup for the Windies. However, it wasn’t to be the case as Russell huffed and puffed through his knee injury.

Big blow for the Windies.

The right-hander could only score 36 runs in the three innings he played for the West Indies in the tournament. Furthermore, Russell had scalped five wickets in the four innings of the tourney.

Meanwhile, Russell had also missed the last match against New Zealand. A lot was expected from Andre Russell but his injury didn’t help him.

On the other hand, West Indies has won a solitary contest out of the six matches they have played. The Carribean nation was able to get off to a good start as they had obliterated Pakistan by seven wickets in their opening match.

However, it has been a different story since then as Jason Holder-led side has failed to win a contest. It is a big blow for the West Indies as Russell was looking in ominous form.

In fact, Russell had generated brisk pace in the opening match against Pakistan as he bowled consistently above 140 km/h. However, Russell knee injury continued to trouble him which has now eventually ruled him out of the World Cup.

Meanwhile, West Indies will play their next match against India at Old Trafford, Manchester on 27th June. The Windies needs to win all their remaining three matches to stand a chance to qualify for the last four of the competition.
