The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to announce the Team India squad for the upcoming World Cup on 15th April. A per reports in the Sportstar, the board have confirmed them that the five-member selection committee will be meeting at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai to finalise the squad for the tournament. The quadrennial event is slated to be played in England and Wales from 30th May.

It was only last week that the chairman of selectors, MSK Prasad stated that the team will be named on or before 20th April. As per the guidelines of the World Cup, each and every team is expected to announce their squad on or before 23rd April. The teams can make any changes to the final 15 squads 7 days prior to the start of the tournament. If that’s the case, then the ICC’s Event Technical Committee must approve any such charges.

In the earlier editions of the World Cup, a team would announce a 30 member preliminary squad two months ahead of the tournament. However, as per new Members Playing Agreement which came into effect in 2016, the teams do not need to follow any such practice. Meanwhile the chairman of selectors, MSK Prasad was confidence of the fact that they will name the best available squad for the quadrennial event.

Earlier, teams would announce a probable 30-member list two months before the tournament, but under the new Members Playing Agreement which came into effect in 2016, the teams do not need to follow such a practice. Prasad had earlier exuded confidence about naming the best squad for the mega event.

“I am confident that we are going to announce a good team. We have worked on this for almost one and a half years. We have observed all the players, tested good combinations,” he had said last week.

The Men in Blue will go into the World Cup as one of the top contenders for the tournament. They have been quite brilliant in the limited overs format of late. Barring a series loss to Australia not long ago India looks in shape and will be looking to lift their 3rd World Cup title.
