India team’s strength and conditioning coach Shankar Basu has confirmed that the update on Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s current fitness will be known shortly. Bhuvneshwar Kumar had pulled a hamstring in the match against Pakistan after bowling only 2.4 overs. Thus, he is ruled out for at least three matches.
Kumar has bowled with fire in the ongoing tournament and if there was any doubt of him being the first choice seamer, he was able to put that to rest. The Indian pack leader has scalped five wickets in the ODI showpiece. Bhuvneshwar Kumar had scalped two wickets against South Africa and snared three against Australia.

Kumar has bowled with fire.
“Our physiotherapists are looking after Bhuvneshwar Kumar at the moment and we will know the status very shortly,” Basu said in a press conference.
Virat Kohli had earlier confirmed that Kumar landed awkwardly in one of the footmarks. Thus, Kumar has been ruled out for three matches.
“Slight niggle for Bhuvi, he slipped on one of the footmarks. He’s out for two, maybe three games, but he should come back for us at some stage during this tournament,” Kohli said during the post-match ceremony.
Meanwhile, India has already suffered a huge blow as Shikhar Dhawan has been ruled out of the tournament. Subsequently, Rishabh Pant has been named as the replacement for the batsman.

“Dhawan has a fracture at the base of his first metacarpal on his left hand. Based on several specialist opinions, he will remain in a cast till mid-July, which rules him out of the World Cup. We have requested ICC to allow Rishabh Pant to be as a replacement,” team manager Subramaniam said.
