Indian captain Virat Kohli believes England can get to a gargantuan score of 500 before any team. England has produced gigantic scores in the recent past and they look set to create new annals in the game. In fact, England has the batsmen who have the skills to hit the ground running. England recently won the series against Pakistan by 4-0 and all the matches were high-scoring.

England is ticking the right boxes and they have shown that they can chase any target on their day. Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow have provided solid starts whereas Eoin Morgan, Jos Buttler, Moeen Ali and Ben Stokes have the skills to score runs at a high strike rate.

England has amassed mammoth scores in the recent past.

On the other hand, the England pitches are going to be conducive to batting. Thus, high-scoring matches can be on the cards. Subsequently, the bowlers will play a key role in a particular team’s success.

“I was just going to say it really depends on these guys. They seem to be obsessed with getting to 500 before anyone else,” said Kohli while pointing to Eoin Morgan, who sat beside him.

Meanwhile, Kohli believes the scores of 260-270 will be a par score in some of the matches as there would be the World Cup pressure. Hence the team which will handle pressure with guile will have the wood on the other teams.

The pressure is going to hold the key – Virat Kohli

“It is going to be a high scoring tournament but back home too I said 260-270 will be just as tough to get in a World Cup as chasing 370-380. I don’t see many high scoring games in the latter stages of the tournament, initially some teams might get on a roll but later on, you will see 250 defended as well. That is the kind of pressure World Cup brings.”

In fact, we have seen that the pressure holds the key in the crunch situations of the World Cup. Hence, the team that handles the pressure will have a good chance of winning the cup. Moreover, a small target can get challenging if the pressure is not handled properly.

“Not all the teams are going to be in a great position (in the latter half). The ones who have to make sure that they get the result are going to be under pressure to chase even a small total. The fact that you are going to be close to a knock out berth will get you under pressure in the latter stages and all teams recognise that.

Meanwhile, India will begin their World Cup preparation against New Zealand on 25th May. Men in Blue will begin their World Cup campaign against South Africa on 5th June at Southampton.
