The 12th of the ICC World Cup 2019 has reached the business end of the tournament, and we have got the four semifinalist – India, Australia, England, and New Zealand. The competition has already witnessed some cracking matches with players shinning to their best potential to deliver at the crunch situations.

Meanwhile, there were key players on each side who have failed to deliver. Let us come up with an eleven that performed poorly in the league stages of the World Cup:

New Zealand have made it to the top four, but their top-order has been an absolute failure in this World Cup. Martin Guptill who finished as the highest run-scorer in the last edition of the tournament has struggled to get going in England.

The swashbuckling opener has managed to score only 166 runs from eight matches including one half-century. Guptill will have to hit the strides soon if the Kiwis want to go all the way in this World Cup.

Pakistan had a lot of expectations on their star opener Fakhar Zaman. But the swashbuckling opener has failed to get going as Men in Greens have struggled to put on good opening stands which have put pressure on the middle order.

The southpaw has scored only 186 runs from eight matches at an average of 23.25 including a fifty.

South Africa have struggled mainly due to their batting in the World Cup. The management had pinned their hopes on Aiden Markram to lead the batting, who has been an utter failure in the tournament. The top-order batsman played five games and scored 106 runs at 21.20, his highest of 45 coming against Bangladesh.

Sri Lanka’s leading run-getter in 2019 failed in the World Cup so far as he went out for a duck against New Zealand to begin his campaign. Although he has hit the strides in the later stage but couldn’t convert the starts.

Tom Latham has been an absolute failure in the ICC World Cup 2019 which has weakened New Zealand’s middle order. The wicket-keeper batsman has got a fair chance to prove his batting mettle but has failed to raise his game.

Latham has only touched the double-digit figure on three occasions, including a half-century.

Kedar Jadhav has failed to get going in the lower order which has forced the management ouster him from the playing XI. The all-rounder has managed to score only 80 runs including one half-century against Afghanistan.

Andre Russell struggled with his knee injury in all the matches before bowing out of the World Cup midway. The dynamic all-rounder came into the tournament on the back of a brilliant IPL for Kolkata Knight Riders. But Russell was an absolute failure for West Indies.

Rashid Khan came into this World Cup as Afghanistan’s biggest star but has failed to live up to the expectations. He has managed to pick only six wickets from nine matches at an average of 69.33. The leg-spinner will look to forget this tournament and come back stronger.

Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Mortaza will bow out of the World Cup as their worst bowler. He has managed to pick only one wicket throughout the tournament which sums up their campaign. England’s Jonny Bairstow remains his only wicket in this World Cup.

HASAN ALI

Hasan Ali burst onto the international scene with a lot of possibilities winning the player of the tournament at the 2017 Champions Trophy. The young pacer has been an absolute failure in this World Cup and has not played after the fourth match.

Ali has been expensive throughout the tournament giving away too many runs. In the game against India, Ali conceded one for 84 in nine overs making him the most expensive Pakistani bowler in the World Cup.

South Africa had pinned their hopes on one of the best fast bowlers of this generation, Kagiso Rabada. But the young pacer, who came to this World Cup from an injury had a very minimal effect in this World Cup claiming nine wickets from nine matches at an economy rate of 5.02.
