ICC World Cup 2019: IPL is the Best Tournament to Prepare for the Marquee Event - Rashid Khan

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) lost to Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Eliminator by two wickets to bow out of the Indian Premier League 2019. As the tournament has reached its business end, the focus will now shift to the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019. And Hyderabad’s spinner Rashid Khan who will play a crucial role for Afghanistan said that he had the best preparation playing in the IPL ahead of the showpiece event.

The top-ranked T20I bowler was at his usual best in the second half of the tournament after struggling to pick wickets initially. The teams have made a well-thought-out plan to negate Rashid Khan’s four overs without giving him a wicket. Despite that, the young spinner has 17 wickets to his name from 15 matches. Notable, he boasts a good economy-rate of 6.38 which shows how economical he was throughout the tournament.

In the Eliminator against Delhi Capitals, teh scorecard reads two for 15 in four over’s beside Rashid Khan’s name. His two crucial strikes in the 15th over almost changed the course of the game before Rishabh Pant played a binder. With IPL past now, the focus will be to give significant success to Afghanistan in the marquee event starting from May 30. Rashid said he had an excellent preparation here in India rubbing shoulders with legendary cricketers. The Afghan spinner also hailed the support staffs for taking adequate care and admitted that he loves to play in IPL

“It is the best tournament to prepare for the World Cup because you are pitted against the best cricketers, who will eventually play at the World Cup. You also have a good support staff and coaching staff [in SRH] who take care of you, I am quite happy for that. I am happy to be here. I want to learn as many positive things and take it to the World Cup,” Rashid Khan said to Sportstar.

Meanwhile, Rashid Khan has also added other dimensions to cricket. Apart from bowling, he has also chipped in with few scores in the lower-order and is also a good fielder. A complete Rashid Khan will be in action when Afghanistan begin their World Cup campaign on June 1 against Australia.
