ICC World Cup 2019: Jofra Archer and Mark Wood Sustain Injuries to Pile up Problems for England

England Cricket Team have received another jolt in the ICC World Cup 2019 chances as two of their fast bowlers – Jofra Archer and Mark Wood sustained injuries during the practice games against Australia. Meanwhile, England earlier received a blow when their skipper Eoin Morgan copped up a finger injury which resulted in a fracture.

Injury scare for England ahead of the World Cup

Jofra Archer and Mark Wood, two of England’s strike bowlers who can bowl consistently at 90mphr, sustained injuries and had to leave the field within few moments of their practice game against Australia in Southampton. It was Mark Wood who got injured first during the fourth over stopped halfway through his run-up and left the pitch having indicated that he may have an issue. To make things worse, Jofra Archer who came as a replacement for Wood copped up a blow when he slid to stop a boundary. He went out of the ground moments after only to return after half-an-hour.

A statement from England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said that Mark Wood had experienced some left-foot discomfort considering his long ankle problem. The report also added that a medical team is looking after him before they decided whether he will return to the ground or not. On the other hand, Jofra Archer is carrying slight niggle which is giving him troubles. This forced Paul Collingwood, England’s assistant coach, to take the field for quite some time.

“He will continue to spend some time with the medical team before a decision is made on whether he will return to the match,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, things are looking gloomy for England as Eoin Morgan also fractured his left index finger. He will miss both the practice games but is likely to recover ahead of the World Cup opener against South Africa on May 30.

Batting first, Australia is currently at 156 for three in 30 overs with David Warner getting among the runs. Shaun Marsh and Steven Smith have also been in good touch which will keep the defending champions in good stead ahead of the tournament. Liam Plunkett starred with the ball picking two wickets with the ball.
