Kapil, who led India to the first World Cup trophy in 1983, said that it is unfair to criticise Dhoni. He also added that this has happened to all legendary cricketers as one cannot expect someone to perform like a 20-year-old throughout his career.

“It’s very unfair to criticise Dhoni. It has happened to those who have been rated as all-time greats. They are not going to be 20 all over again,” Kapil said.

Dhoni is doing a good job: Kapil

Furthermore, Kapil Dev said that MS Dhoni brings a lot to the table other than his abilities with the bat. The former all-rounder asserted that Dhoni is doing a fabulous job and meeting the team needs despite not meeting the expectations of the fans. Dhoni is playing his last World Cup, and rumours are going around that he might retire after the tournament. If that is the case, the champion player will wish to be at his best and leave on a positive note.

“The most important thing is Dhoni is doing good as far as the team is concerned. He may not be meeting the expectations of the public. The biggest problem is we expect so much from our heroes. He is doing a fabulous job for the team and an integral member of the thinktank,” Kapil concluded.
