South Africa, who will aim to end their ICC World Cup 2019 campaign on a winning note will face a tough challenge against Australia on July 6 (Saturday) at the Old Trafford in Manchester.

South Africa, plagued by injuries and poor form of their key players, have had a disappointing World Cup. The four-time semi-finalists find themselves at the eighth position in the points table with two wins from eight matches. Chris Morris, Rassie van der Dussen and Imran Tahir were the only notable performers for a major part of the season. In the nine-wicket win over Sri Lanka, however, both skipper Faf du Plessis and Hashim Amla were at their fluent best.

On the other hand, Australia have been a dominant force in this World Cup, winning seven of the eight matches so far. The openers have been in outstanding form along with wicket-keeper batsman Alex Carey. The bowlers have also been in good form with Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc leading the pack with the new ball. Victory against South Africa will ensure that they head into the semi-finals as the top-ranked team in the points table and will play New Zealand.

Toss Report

South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis has won the toss and elected to bat first against Australia at the Old Trafford in Manchester.

Here is what the captains said,

Aaron Finch

Nice to recharge the batteries, had a hectic period for a bit in the middle. That’s what’s been pleasing from our point of view. Have continued to improve in all areas of the game. Unchanged again. Behrendorff has been bowling beautifully with the new ball. Starc, Cummins, Lyon, they’ve been good.

Faf du Plessis

Going to have a bat. Looks a good wicket. Forced change. Playing a second spinner. Hashim Amla got hit on the knee yesterday, he’s missing. Chance to look at Shamsi. Haven’t played our best cricket. Today is a big occassion. SA-AUS games are a big occasion to be part of.
