Mohammed Shami will shoulder the role of fast bowling alongside Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019 for Indian National Cricket Team. The Bengal pacer has made a strong comeback to the ODI side and will have a crucial role to play. With a month to go for the cricket’s biggest cricketing extravaganze to kick off, Shami said that they are hopeful of keeping their record intact against Pakistan.
Shami, who has worked a lot on his fitness and lost a few kgs have looked in great shape in the last couple of months. Mohammed Shami has bowled in a good rhythm and also bagged the man of the series award during India’s victorious campaign in Australi earlier this year. He is also having a good time in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) and looks to carry that to the marquee event in England.
Speaking to ANI, the 29-year-old Shami said that they will give their best when they face Pakistan on June 16 at the Old Trafford Cricket Ground. This clash had garnered a lot of attention in the wake of the Pulwama attack when Indan authorities threatened to pull out of the tie. But ICC is hell bent to carry on with the game, and as per the current scenario, India will also play the match.
“Our efforts will be there to maintain the record. It is the game. It can turn to any side. As our records are there, we guess that we continue the record and win and you get the chance to see the match,” Shami said.
Players aware of the conditions
Meanwhile, the Indian National Cricket team players will have a massive advantage when they visit England. Most of the cricketers have played n England before and are aware of the surfaces on offer. Mohammed Shami feels they won’t take much time to acclimatise to the conditions.
“I think that the players who have been selected for the World Cup have already been in England tour. They have witnessed the conditions there earlier. Everyone in the team knows what pitches we will get. It’s not much difficult for us to observe,” Shami said.
