ICC World Cup 2019: MS Dhoni Will Play a Crucial Role in England - Rohit Sharma

The Indian National Cricket Team vice-captain Rohit Sharma hailed former skipper MS Dhoni saying that he will play a crucial role in the upcoming World Cup. The men in blues play their first game against South Africa on June 5 at the Rose Bowl Cricket Ground in Southampton.

The ICC World Cup 2019, scheduled to take place in England and Wales, is just a month away from now. The participating teams have already named their preliminary squad, and the excitement surrounding the tournament has also started to grip in. Many former cricketers and pundits have tipped Virat Kohli & Co as the potential winner to lift the trophy. And for that, the senior players – MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma will have to be on song.

Dhoni’s presence adds value to the team

Sharma, who is currently leading the Mumbai Indians, reflected on the importance of Dhoni’s presence in the India team. He also added Dhoni’s ability to guide youngsters, especially the two wrist-spinners in the team, will make a lot of difference. MS Dhoni has a lot of experience behind his back, and his mere presence adds value to the side. The former India skipper’s poor outing raised a lot of doubt, but he had the backing of Virat Kohli. However, he returned to form right at the start in 2019 and looks in excellent touch ahead of the World Cup.

“MS [Dhoni] has years of experience. He has handled the team for so long and brought success to the team. So his role is quite important. Not just a player or batsman but as an individual too. His suggestions and thought process reflect upon a lot of the team players. He tries to help out all the players,” Rohit told India Today.

MS Dhoni’s advice to Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav from the back has had a huge impact. Also, Dhoni’s to help Virat Kohli out from behind the wickets will be crucial in the World Cup.

“When he is wicket-keeping too, he keeps telling Kuldeep (Yadav) and Chahal about the pitch and what to bowl. All these things matter a lot,” he concluded.
