Indian captain Virat Kohli is the most consistent batsman in the world. Kohli has come up with some great performances with the bat and there is no doubt that he is the best batsman in the World. However, it is a different ball game when we talk about Virat Kohli’s credentials as a bowler. Kohli has scalped four wickets in his One Day career and as many in his T20I career.

Furthermore, Kohli concedes his runs at an economy rate of 6.22 in the 50-overs version. Hence, Kohli is not taken seriously with his bowling by his teammates. Kohli shared one instance when he decided to bowl after taking MS Dhoni’s permission when India was in a shoo-in position. However, Jasprit Bumrah was not at all impressed and told Kohli that why is he taking it easy.

Virat Kohli – The Bowler?

“It was the during the ODI series in Sri Lanka (in 2017) where we had almost won everything, I asked MS (Dhoni) if I could bowl. Just when I was getting ready to roll my arm over, Bumrah (Jasprit) shouted from the boundary and said ‘no joking around, it is an international game’.”

“No one in the team believes in my bowling but I do. After that I had back issues and then never bowled (in the middle),” said the Indian captain as quoted by PTI.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli also revealed that he tried to emulate James Anderson‘s action when he was a budding cricketer in Delhi Academy. Kohli also told the same to his arch-rival with whom he has enjoyed great competition.

“I used to follow James Anderson’s action when I was at the academy (in Delhi). Later, when I got to play alongside him, I told him about that story. We both had a good laugh over it,” Kohli said.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli is yet to open his wickets column in Test cricket. In fact, Virat Kohli’s bowling is famously remembered when he conceded 28 runs in an over against Albie Morkel in the 2012 edition of the IPL against Chennai Super Kings.

Cricket is my first love. I want to be a wordsmith. I want to weave magic with my words.
