England entered the World Cup as the hot favourites and deservedly finished on the winning side with skipper Eoin Morgan lifting the trophy at the Lord’s balcony. They defeated New Zealand on the Super Over boundary count to lift the title for the first time in the history.

Since their ouster from the group stages of the 2015 World Cup, England worked hard to achieve this stage. They have played some quality cricket throughout the tournament and rightly so have won the competition.

NEW ZEALAND (9/10)

New Zealand have played consistent cricket throughout the ICC World Cup 2019 to make it to the finals of the tournament. Although their top-order has failed to do the scoring, Kane Williamson has led their batting with good support from their pace bowling trio – Matt Henry, Trent Boult, and Lockie Ferguson.

However, their campaign ended on a sad as they once again ended on the wrong side of the tournament losing consecutive World Cup finals. The Blacks  Caps played their best cricket in the finals but was unlucky to lose the final on Super Over boundary count.

AUSTRALIA (8/10)

The defending champions Australia played dominant cricket throughout the ICC World Cup 2019. But their campaign came to an end one step ahead of the final going down against the host England by eight wickets in the second semifinal at Edgbaston.

Australia looked dominating with their openers – David Warner and Aaron Finch doing the bulk of the scoring and well supported by new ball bowlers – Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins. However, they received major jolts before the semifinals with few injuries ahead of the semifinals which cost them the semifinal.

INDIA (8.5/10)

India made a shocking exit from the ICC World Cup 2019 losing to New Zealand in the semifinals. Since then, the Men in Blues were dominant making it to the knockout stages topping the points table after the end of the league stages.

Virat Kohli & Co played some outstanding brand of cricket throughout the tournament. The likes of Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah led the team with significant contributions from skipper Kohli. They entered the competition as the hot favourites but failed to win their third World Cup trophy.

Pakistan have been the most unpredictable side in the World Cup. They suffered a humiliating defeat to West Indies in the tournament opener but bounced back to beat favourites England only then to go down against in the next few games. Pakistan picked up the momentum, but it was too late for them to make themselves a place in the top four.

The Men In Greens managed to win only five games before bowing out virtue a poor net run-rate for their poor defeat against West Indies. Besides, the batting; however, has not clicked for Pakistan which has cut their time short in England.

BANGLADESH (6/10)

Bangladesh have played some spirited cricket throughout the ICC World Cup 2019 despite failing to make it to the top four of the ICC World Cup 2019. Although they won only three games, Bangladesh were in the stage of going back with a win on various occasion.

All=rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been their brightest star of the tournament leading the side with both bat and ball. Bangladesh will look to draw confidence from their World Cup effort in the next series that follows against Sri Lanka later this month.

WEST INDIES (4/10)

West Indies had a dismal run in the tournament winning only two games against Pakistan in their opener and their last outing against Afghanistan. They had moments of brilliance throughout the tournament but lacked consistency.

The Caribbeans mainly struggled due to their weak links in the batting who failed to rally behind their bowlers. Meanwhile, they made a stunning start handing a humiliating defeat to Pakistan but their performance faded away since then as they finished ninth in the points table over Afghanistan.

SRI LANKA (4/10)

Sri Lanka didn’t have the best of the World Cup as they were knocked out of the league stage and could not make their way into the final four. The Island nation was able to win three out of the nine matches they played and lost four matches. Unfortunately, they were affected most by the rain washout matches as two of their games ended in no-results.

Sri Lanka showed moments of brilliance when they stunned England due to which the tournament was wide open again. However, Sri Lanka was not able to come up with consistent performances and the lack of inexperience was palpable in their renditions.

SOUTH AFRICA (5/10)

South Africa didn’t have the best of the World Cup as they were knocked out in the early stages of the tournament. The Proteas were not able to get in the complete performances and they had to pay the price. Thus, they finished at the seventh position in the points table and could not come up with complete performances. South Africa could not tick the right boxes and they would like to rebuild their team.

Faf du Plessis & Co could not deliver the goods with either bat or the ball. South Africa won only three matches whereas they lost five matches with one match ending in no result.

AFGHANISTAN (2/10)

Afghanistan didn’t have the best of the ICC World Cup 2019. In fact, a lot was expected from the Afghan team but they could not deliver the goods. However, they had given a run for the money to India and Pakistan and had nearly pulled out a miraculous win. But they could win the crunch situations of the match.

Afghanistan could not even savour a win in the whole World Cup and they must have been disappointed by their performance. More than their performance on the field, it is their controversy off the field which has grabbed the headlines. Afghanistan will look to improve their effort in the upcoming fixtures following the World Cup.
