Steyn who joined the Bangalore as a replacement for Nathan Coulter-Nile played two matches for the franchise and was instrumental in bringing them to the winning ways. Before that, Royal Challengers Bangalore have lost six games on a trot and was facing a potential ouster from the tournament. But three consecutive wins have kept them in line for the qualification. However, Dale Steyn who aggravated his old shoulder injury will miss the remainder of the season, and it will be a massive blow for the side.
Will Steyn play the World Cup?
Meanwhile, it is to be seen whether Dale Steyn regains his fitness ahead of the showpiece event. The veteran fast bowler is running out of time, and South Africa team manager and doctor Mohammed Moosajee said that a shoulder specialist would treat Steyn once he comes back. He also added that their primary concern is to get Steyn ready before the squad departs on May 19. After consultation with the doctor, Cricket South Africa will fix the recovery plan of the fiery pacer.
“Upon assessment and subsequent investigations‚ a flare-up of his right shoulder was confirmed. With the World Cup around the corner‚ it is our priority to get him back to full fitness before the squad departs on May 19. He will consult with a shoulder specialist upon his return and a recovery plan will be put in place,” Moosajee said.
Dale Steyn broke his shoulder while bowling against England at Kingsmead in December 2015. This took a wrong turn in his career, and another shoulder injury followed by an ankle problem kept him out of action for a significant period. The 35-year-old Steyn has played 125 ODIs for South Africa picking 196 wickets and is a crucial campaigner for the Proteas in the World Cup.
