ICC World Cup 2019: Shakib Al Hasan Disappointed After Team’s Exit
Bangladesh talisman all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has shown his disappointment after his team could not go any further in the tournament. Bangladesh still has a match to go against Pakistan but they are already knocked out of the tourney. The Tigers have played eight matches thus far in which they were able to win three and lost four whereas one of their games ended in no result.
In fact, Bangladesh has fought hard in all of their matches. But they were not able to grab the crucial stages of the match which cost them big. On the other hand, Shakib Al Hasan has been superb for the team. The gun all-rounder has been at his best as he has amassed 542 runs in the tournament to be the second highest run-getter behind Rohit Sharma. Furthermore, Hasan has also delivered the goods with the ball as he has scalped 11 wickets in seven innings.
Bangladesh could not clinch the crucial stages of the match.
“It is right that we played good [brand] of cricket, but we didn’t come here to play good cricket. We wanted to win, but we couldn’t do it,” he said on Wednesday (July 3). “I think it’s very disappointing because we couldn’t fulfill our dream that we had for this mega event. From that perspective, I think its very disappointing. if we could have done few small things better, I think we would have got a better result.
Thus, Hasan is a serious contender for the Man of the tournament award as he has ticked the right boxes. However, the number one all-rounder could not get the same support from the other end.
“Those of us who are playing know our responsibility that we have to play well. It sometimes happens and sometimes doesn’t, that’s the thing, but I personally think if our applications were better in some areas, we could have been in a better position and it is true for every department, batting, bowling and fielding. If I talk about the whole summary of the World Cup result-wise, it’s very disappointing. There are some positive sides too, but talking about this doesn’t make any sense now because at the end of the day, results matter and this is an area that we have to change.
“One thing I can say is that everyone is trying. Every one of us tried, but I think we should have tried more desperately,” he added.
Bangladesh has taken giant strides in the cricket world in the last five years. They are a consistent side and would aim to come back even stronger. Shakib Al Hasan has been instrumental in the success of the team and he would like to carry on in a similar fashion.
