ICC World Cup 2019: South Africa Players' Rating

South Africa didn’t have the best of the World Cup as they were knocked out in the early stages of the tournament. The Proteas were not able to get in the complete performances and they had to pay the price. In fact, the Rainbow nation could not deliver the goods with either bat or the ball. South Africa won only three matches whereas they lost five matches with one match ending in no result. We take a look at South Africa Player’s rating.

Thus, they finished at the seventh position in the points table and could not come up with complete performances. South Africa could not tick the right boxes and they would like to rebuild their team.

Here is South Africa player’s rating:

Hashim Amla: 5/10

The veteran batsman didn’t have the best of the World Cup as he could not deliver the goods with the bat. Amla was in good form in the warm-up matches but failed to convert it to good starts. Amla scored 203 runs in the seven innings and could not convert his starts into substantial scores. The right-hander scored his runs at an average of 40.60. Furthermore, he scored his runs at a poor strike rate of 64.86.

Quinton de Kock – 6/10

The South African wicketkeeper-batsman could not convert his starts into a substantial score. de Kock scored 305 runs at an average of 38.12 and at a strike rate of 86.89. The left-hander scored three fifties but failed to convert them into a big score. de Kock could not get going and it was a disappointing tournament for him. However, de Kock was good behind the stumps.

Aiden Markram – 4/10

A lot was expected from Aiden Markram but the stylish batsman could not deliver the goods. Markram scored 140 runs in the six innings he played in the tournament. The right-hander scored his runs at a paltry average of 23.33. Furthermore, he scored his runs at a strike rate of 75.27. Markram failed to achieve any momentum and could not score even a fifty in the tournament.

Faf du Plessis – 6/10

The South African skipper failed to convert his starts into substantial scores. The right-hander scored a fine hundred in the final match against Australia to help his team by 10 runs.  Faf du Plessis was the highest run-getter for South Africa as he amassed 387 runs in the tournament at an average of 64.50 and strike rate of 89.58.

Rassie Van der Dussen – 8.5/10

The right-hander was the biggest positive for the Proteas in the World Cup. Rassie Van der Dussen scored 311 runs and he was the second highest run-getter of the tournament at an average of 62.20 and strike rate of 90.41. The right-hander scored his runs consistently and he was South Africa’s best batsman. The right-hander scored three fifties in the tournament as he batted at the top of his game.

David Miller – 4.5/10

The southpaw batsman could not deliver the goods for his team. Miller scored 136 runs in the four innings at an average of 34 and strike rate of 86.62. The left-hander could not stand tall to the challenge and failed to add the finishing touches to the South African innings. Furthermore, David Miller who is generally good in the field was sloppy in the field as he bungled his catches.

JP Duminy – 4/10

The veteran batsman could not get going in the tournament. Duminy failed to get going in the initial stages of the competition. The southpaw batsman scored 70 runs in the four innings of the tournament at an average of 17.50 and strike rate of 97.22. Furthermore, Duminy scalped a solitary wicket in his last tourney for South Africa.

Andile Phehlukwayo – 6/10

The all-rounder was decent with the ball for the Faf du Plessis-led side. The left-handed scored 133 runs at an average of 33.25 and strike rate of 85.26. The right-arm medium pacer took 11 wickets in the nine matches he played and did a good job with the ball. He bowled with an economy rate of 5.43 and average of 30.55. 

Chris Morris – 6.5/10

Chris Morris was able to deliver the goods with the ball. Morris scalped 13 wickets in the eight matches he played. The talisman all-rounder bowled with an economy rate of 5.36 and average of 26.23. However, Morris could not get going with the bat as he scored only 74 runs in the four innings at an average of 24.67.

Kagiso Rabada – 6/10

The gun fast bowler wasn’t at his best in the tournament. Rabada failed to provide regular breakthroughs to the South African side as he failed to hit the right areas. The fast bowler snared 11 wickets in the tournament in nine matches he played. However, a lot was expected and Rabada could not deliver the goods for his team.  Rabada bowled with an average of 36.09 and economy rate of 5.09.

Imran Tahir – 6/10

The talisman leg-spinner was at his best in the initial phase of the tournament. However, Tahir could not deliver the goods in the second phase of the tournament. Tahir scalped 11 wickets in the nine matches he played in the tourney. The leg-spinner bowled at an economy of 4.92 and average of 34. In fact, Tahir played his swansong tournament and he showed great character in his bowling.

Lungi Ngidi – 5/10

Lungi Ngidi suffered a hamstring injury in the second match against Bangladesh and thus his tournament’s journey took a blow. Ngidi scalped seven wickets in the four matches he played for the Proteas. Lungi Ngidi bowled with an economy rate of 6.39 and an average of 30.14.
