Former England skipper Michael Vaughan has joined the list of admirers of Indian captain Virat Kohli after the booing incident. Virat Kohli had shown great spirit when the jam-packed Indian crowd at the Kennington Oval, London started to boo Steven Smith who was fielding at the boundary line. However, Kohli didn’t like the same and asked the Indian fans to cheer for Smith rather than boo him.

Kohli also put his weight behind Steven Smith in the post-match press conference. In fact, both the players who have shared a great rivalry in the recent past shook hands with each other after the sweet gesture from Kohli. Furthermore, Virat Kohli said sorry to Steven Smith on behalf of the crowd.

Meanwhile, this was not the first time when the chants of ‘cheater’, ‘cheater’ were hurled at Steven Smith by the crowd. Moreover, David Warner has had to deal with the same. Thus, both the talisman batsman has had a tough time since they have made a return to the International cricket after serving their ball-tampering ban.

Virat Kohli said in the post-match press conference, “There are so many Indian fans here, I just didn’t want them to set a bad example to be honest. He didn’t do anything to be booed, in my opinion. He’s just playing cricket. I mean he’s just standing there and I felt bad because if I was in a position where something had happened with me and I’d apologised and accepted it and I came back and still I get booed, I wouldn’t like it either.

“So I just felt for him and told him ‘sorry for… on behalf of the crowd’. We’ve seen that happen in a few earlier games as well. In my opinion that’s not acceptable.”
