Sri Lanka bounced back backing on an outstanding century from experienced Angelo Mathews to post 264 runs before Jasprit Bumrah wrecked havoc with the new ball at Headingley in Leeds.

India went in with two changes bringing in Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav in place of Mohammed Shami and Yuzvendra Chahal. Jasprit Bumrah provided the initial breakthrough after Sri Lanka skipper Dimuth Karunaratne opted to bat first. The top-ranked ODI bowler removed Karunaratne in the fourth over to have Sri Lanka at 17 for one. Kusal Perera followed the pack soon giving Bumrah his second wicket to have the opponents in dire trouble.

The Men in Blues kept up the pressure on Sri Lanka to pick two more wickets removing in-form Avishka Fernando and Kusal Mendis. Hardik Pandya removed Fernando while Jadeja immediately made a mark getting the better of Mendis. Striving at 55 for four, Angelo Mathews and Lahiru Thirimanne added a 100+ stand to bail their side out of danger. Both of them reached their individual fifties as the Indian fielders were sloppy in the fields.

Angelo Mathews was the dominant of the two finding the boundaries in between focusing on the ones and twos. Kuldeep Yadav provided an important breakthrough removing the dangerous looking Thirimanne at 53. But Mathews continued to lead Sri Lanka’s batting as India bowlers failed to bounce back. In the process, the veteran batsman brought his century in style to post a challenging total on the scoreboard.

Jasprit Bumrah finally got Angelo Mathews out at 113 runs after he took Sri Lanka’s score over 250. Dhananjaya de Silva scored a few in the last over to post 264 runs at the end of 50 overs which is unlikely to be a tough task for India.

Among the outstanding centuries of this World Cup no doubt by Angelo Mathew. Not only pulled his team out of deeo crisis, but put India under pressure now

This is an excellent fightback from Sri Lanka. Once again, Angelo Mathews has shown why he is, by some distance, Sri Lanka's best batsman. Set for 270 now. Will be happy if they get there.

Jadeja HAS TO play in this Indian team in the semi-final.
Shami back for Kuldeep & DK out to keep Jadu!
Still an easy game for England, but India’s best options…

Quite like Jadeja being in for today's game. This has experimentation for semi-final written all over it. Jadeja at no.7 against England isn't too bad an idea. #INDvSL #CWC19

Best we’ve seen Mathew bat in the World Cup. Absorbed pressure superbly after top order collapse, on top of pace and spin bowling. If he bats thru, Sri Lanka could get 250-260, a fightin score

Was a great sight this morning when Malinga embraced Bumrah before play started. Knowledge knows no boundaries. Share it.

Angelo loves playing against India. Angelo loves batting at Leeds. Superb rescue job from 55/4. 275+ likely to witness a good contest. #CWC19 #IndvSL

Experience matters and that's what Matthews has shown. He has a hundred to his name in his last World Cup. What a way to bring it up against India.#INDvSL
