Bangladesh has posted a par score of 330 runs after South Africa’s skipper Faf du Plessis won the toss and surprisingly decided to bowl first in the fifth of the ICC World Cup 2019. The Tigers got off to a flying start with their openers setting the stage for the middle order. Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar added 60 runs for the opening partnership with the latter playing the aggressive role.

Sarkar timed the ball with perfection and only dealt in boundaries. On the other hand, Tamim Iqbal took a backseat as he was more circumspect. South Africa got their first wicket when Andile Phehlukwayo produced an outside edge against Tamim Iqbal.

Bangladesh has done a great job with the bat.
In fact, Soumya Sarkar had the rub off the green when Faf du Plessis and Aiden Markram didn’t go for the catch. Sarkar scored 42 and 36 out of total score came in boundaries. The southpaw batsman was sent back when Chris Morris targeted his body with a short-pitched delivery.
Subsequently, Bangladesh best batsmen Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan came up with a fine alliance of 142 runs. Both the veteran batsmen were able to hit the ground running and scored their runs at will. Rahim and Shakib respected the good balls and launched their attacks on the weak balls from South African bowlers.

Imran Tahir provided the much-needed breakthrough for the Proteas when Shakib Al Hasan went for the sweep shot but could not get the connection with the bat. Mohammad Mithun came to bat with an aggressive approach but his knock was shot down before it took off by Imran Tahir.
Andile Phehlukwayo got the prized wicket of well-settled Mushfiqur Rahim when the right-hander found Van der Dussen on the off-side. Thus, South Africa was able to pull back things in the fag end of the innings.

However, Mahmudullah and Mosaddek Hossain added the finishing touches to Bangladesh’s innings. In fact, Bangladesh posted a total above 300 for the first time against South Africa.
Here is how Twitter reacted to Bangladesh’s batting innings:
14th time SA have conceded 300 runs or more after opting to bowl first. They have won just one of the previous 13 games! #CWC19 #SAvBAN #CricketWorldCup

Morris must be so frustrating for a coach.

Bangladesh has improved by leaps and bounds over the years. Since thrashing England in the 2015 WC, they have come a long way. At this moment, they look like a settle unit.
I am saying it again, Bangladesh beating anyone won't be an upset now. #SAvBAN

Bangladesh bossing it at the moment. South Africa's bowling being made to look pedestrian. Faf needs to do something different now, else Shakib & Mushfiq are taking this game away. Also, brilliant to see them both bat 3 & 4. #SAvsBAN #CWC19

South Africa looking a bit jittery? Runs coming too easy…

Mark Nicholas said that most people would be surprised to see Shakib Al Hasan at the top of the ODI rankings list. He's been in the top 3 every single week since 14 Jan 2009. That's more than 10 years.
Who on earth would be surprised?#CWC19 #BANvSA #SAvBAN

Clearly the best batting passage of #CWC19 so far. Go, Soumya Sarkar.

We will get the first #CWC19 centurion today… #SAvBan

So no more Ngidi in this game. Such a good young cricketer but so injury prone. Tough 15 overs ahead for South Africa.
— Harsha Bhogle (@bhogleharsha) June 2, 2019
One of my favourite cricketers @Sah75official and Mushfiqur playing Bangladesh into a very decent position. They're milking the attack right now and South Africa is running out of options. They have to hope Rabada can break this partnership.

Such clean and decisive stroke play from Bangladesh as they approach the 300 milestone. They have looked convincing all day ??? #SAvBAN

What's wrong with South Africa? #WorldCup2019

'South Africa are not the best fielding team at this year's World Cup' … pretty honest assessment by Graeme Smith.

Is this Bangladesh team that good or is this the good old South Africa of the world cups? #CWC19 #SAvBAN

This is the first world cup match in 2019 which will last 100 overs I feel. ???. “Baaki toh sab aaye aur gaaye” #SAvBAN #ICCWorldCup2019
