The hosts England has booked their semifinal berth after winning their match against New Zealand by 119 runs at Riverside Ground, Chester-le-Street. England captain won the toss and decided to bat first on the featherbed of a pitch. The England openers Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow added a fine alliance of 123 runs to lay down the foundation of a big score.

Both the players were able to hit the ground running as they got their runs at an impressive rate. In fact, this was the third consecutive hundred run partnership between the duo. Jonny Bairstow timed the ball to perfection and completed his second back to back century. Thus, the right-hander became the first English player to score two consecutive centuries.

England was dominant.
On the other hand, Jason Roy once again scored a fine fifty. However, the right-hander was flummoxed by a slower delivery from James Neesham and Roy could not keep his ball to the ground.
Bairstow scored a fine knock of 106 runs from 99 balls laced with 15 fours and one six. However, England could not add the finishing touches to their innings as New Zealand made a strong comeback.Eoin Morgan scored 42 but no other batsman came up with a significant contribution. In fact, at one stage, England was looking good for 350 but ended at 305 after 50 overs.

Subsequently, New Zealand required a good start to chase down the target. However, the Kiwis could not get to an ideal after Henry Nicholls was dismissed for a golden duck. In fact, the ball would have gone above the stumps but the southpaw decided not to go for the review.

New Zealand 175-8 after 41 overs. Assuming NZ lose this game, the equation for Pakistan to qualify for semi-final:
-Pak bat first & score 300, they need to restrict Bangladesh to 4.
-Pak bat second, they don't stand a chance even if they win off first ball.#ENGvNZ #NZvENG #CWC19— Rajneesh Gupta (@rgcricket) July 3, 2019
This could be a close finish. New Zealand haare ya jeete, Pakistan ka taraa zaroor nikale ga. #EngvNZ

Sure you can't say what could've been, but New Zealand are probably going to the semis courtesy that one point from the washout against India in Trent Bridge!
All the more relevant since they've lost to ??, en route to losing to ???????, the other sides in the top four #CWC19
