Meanwhile, Australia posted 223 runs after their skipper Aaron Finch won the toss and decided to bat first. England opening bowlers, Jofra Archer and Chris Woakes provided an ideal start to their team. Jofra Archer was able to plumb Aaron Finch in front of the wickets for the golden duck.
England came up with a complete performance.
Subsequently, Chris Woakes was able to get the better of David Warner when the southpaw could not control the extra bounce. Jonny Bairstow was able to take a sharp catch at the first slip.
Peter Handscomb, making his World Cup debut was done in by Chris Woakes who got the ball to jab back into the right-hander. Thus, Australia was left reeling at 14-3. The onus was on former skipper Steven Smith and Alex Carey to help the defending champions get out of the troubled waters.
Carey took a blow to his chin from Jofra Archer but the left-hander kept on batting after putting a bandage. However, Australia could not add the finishing touches to their innings.
On the other hand, England got off to flying start as Jonny Bairstow and Jason Roy added a fine alliance of 124 runs to put their team’s noses in front. Jason Roy was the aggressor whereas Bairstow played second fiddle to his partner. Bairstow was plumbed in front by Mitchell Starc for 34 runs. Roy was the prey of poor decision from Kumar Dharmasena after he scored a blistering knock 65-ball 85 with the help of nine fours and five maximums.

Subsequently, Eoin Morgan and Joe Root added the finishing touches to the run-chase.
Here is how Twitter reacted to England’s win:
The Aussies should try bowling in Barefoot !!!! ? #CWC19

in the 1996 world cup semifinal, dharmasena dismissed azharuddin
23 years later, he has struck in another world cup semifinal #ENGvAUS #cwc19— Gaurav Kalra (@gauravkalra75) July 11, 2019
Like tennis where they have three reviews for each set, is it time cricket too has a review for every powerplay in ODIS? In Tests, can it be for every session? Surely, the ICC can try and get decisions right. #ENGvAUS

Roy c Carey b Dharmasena. Poor, poor call.

Roy deserved a TON. He really did. #CWC19 #EngvAus

Quite apt that the WC Final will be between a team that plays cricket with great discipline, shrewdness, knows how to maximize resources AND a team that has redefined 50 overs cricket with its aggressive batsmen. On Sunday, there will be a new WC winner at Lord's. #CWC19

That @JasonRoy20 innings, regardless of the farcical end, was pure bliss ❤️. Perhaps batsman will stop just trying to get away with being plumb when they see what can happen as a result ?
— Graeme Swann (@Swannyg66) July 11, 2019
Jason Roy should direct his anger at Jonny Bairstow for burning up a review.
Related – Bairtsow has a dodgy ankle, and Roy might be on dodgy demerit ground. So IF England avoid collapse and make the final – new openers? #CWC19

We are at the fag end of the tournament, and the ICC has still not done this!#ENGvAUS #CWC19 https://t.co/LKPAMiTiu4

Just checked Roy’s dismissal? nothing worse than getting a stinking decision when you putting postage stamps on the bowlers! #minging #CWC19
— Herschelle Gibbs (@hershybru) July 11, 2019
Well that was a shocker. Roy just watched that replay on the big screen as he walked off and he looked… errrr… somewhat displeased. #CWC19 #ENGvAUS

Can’t imagine how teams are struggling against England. The last 2 games vs Sri Lanka they were beaten …one by 200+ runs
— Russel Arnold (@RusselArnold69) July 11, 2019
Surely Jason Roy must be suspended for a year for that dissent. #CWC19

Whilst umpire Dharmasena got the decision wrong, it happens. Surely the blame is on the poor review by Bairstow when it was clearly out.
