ICC World Cup 2019: Twitter Reacts As England Takes Down India To Keep Semifinals Hopes Alive
Updated - 01 Jul 2019, 01:17 AM
England was able to win the contest against India by 31 runs wickets at Edgbaston, Birmingham on Saturday. The English side posted a huge score of 337 runs after Eoin Morgan won the toss and elected to bat first. Jonny Bairstow and Jason Roy gave a perfect start to England as the openers laid down the foundation of a big score.
Roy and Bairstow added 160 runs for the opening partnership. In fact, Roy was lucky when Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni decided not to go upstairs despite the batsman getting a glove to the ball.
Roy and Bairstow were milking the Indian bowling and took a keen interest in thrashing the Indian spinners – Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal. England was cruising and the moment of brilliance was provided by Ravindra Jadeja who dived forward to take a blinder.
Bairstow completed his maiden World Cup hundred. Ben Stokes added the finishing touches as he scored 79 runs.
On the other hand, Mohammed Shami was the pick of Indian bowlers as he scalped a five-wicket haul. Shami bowled with fire and now has 13 wickets in the tournament in the three matches he has played. Furthermore, Jasprit Bumrah was right on the money with his yorkers in the death overs and conceded only 44 runs in his quota of 10 overs.
Meanwhile, India lost the early wicket of KL Rahul in the run-chase. However, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli added a fine alliance of 138 runs. Virat Kohli continued his love affair of scoring fifties but once again could not convert it to the hundred. Rohit Sharma continued his sublime form going as he scored his third hundred of this World Cup.
Hardik Pandya tried hard and scored 45 from 33 balls. However, MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav could not get their timing right and failed to get going.
Here is how Twitter reacted:
England's first win against India in World Cup since 1992. Also, this is India's only 3rd defeat in last three World Cups. #IndvEng

Great performance … ???

Disappointing finish. A run-a-ball partnership can't win games. Was exciting till Pandya was in.

This is not the first time we’ve seen MS Dhoni play like this. And until someone doesn’t hold him accountable, it won’t be the last. #ENGvIND #CWC19

And a few words on Plunkett. He has lost a yard, but with cross seam and cutters, he makes things happen on these sort of surfaces #ENGvIND

The unbeaten run comes to an end. A hard day at the office for the boys. The business end of the tournament is still up for grabs. Come on boys let’s regroup and get back on track. #INDvENG #CWC19

The required run rate is 15. And it hurts to see that MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav has already thrown in the towel. No INTEND to chase down the target. #CWC19 #ENGvIND
