India booked their semifinal berth in style after defeating Bangladesh by 28 runs in the 40th match of the ICC World Cup 2019. The Indian team came up with a complete performance to beat their neighbours. The Men in Blue posted a competitive score of 314 runs after Virat Kohli won the toss and decided to bat first at Edgbaston, Birmingham.

Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul gave a great foundation to the team as the right-handers added 180 runs for the opening partnership. Both the openers were able to get off the blocks and scored runs at will.

India was too good.

Rohit Sharma was able to clean strike the ball as the right-hander batted at the top of his game. In fact, the right-hander had the rub of the green on his side as he was dropped by Tamim Iqbal when he was on nine runs.

Consequently, Rohit Sharma made sure that Bangladesh paid a hefty price for the bungled catch. Rohit Sharma timed the ball to perfection as he scored his fourth hundred of the World Cup but he was soon dismissed after completing his personal milestone. The right-hander failed to pick up the slower delivery from Soumya Sarkar. KL Rahul looked good and scored 77 runs but could not get to the hundred.

However, India could not add the finishing touches. MS Dhoni scored 35 whereas Pant smashed 48 but India finished at 314 when they looked set to reach 350.

On the other hand, Bangladesh required a big opening partnership if they had to chase down 315 runs. However, they could not get a big alliance as Tamim Iqbal chopped the ball back on to the stumps while facing Mohammed Shami.

Shakib Al Hasan once again scored a fine fifty but Bangladesh kept losing wickets. However, Mohammad Saifuddin and Sabbir Rahman refused to throw in the towel as they added a fine partnership.
