Indian National Cricket Team have begun their ICC World Cup 2019 campaign in style beating South Africa and Australia in the opening two encounters. The Men in Blues are now gearing up for their next game against New Zealand later today at the Rose Bowl in Southampton. Meanwhile, Indian skipper Virat Kohli is in line to break yet another ODI record of Sachin Tendulkar during the game against the Kiwis.

Kohli in line to break Tendulkar’s record

Kohli has had an excellent start to this World Cup with scores of 18 and 82 in the first two matches. His knock against Australia helped them post 352 runs on the board after a good start by Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma. During his knock, Virat Kohli also completed his 50th ODI half-century. India eventually won the game by 36 runs to make it two out of two matches. The top-ranked ODI batsman will look to keep the form going against New Zealand, against whom they suffered a thumping loss in the warm-up clash. Kohli managed to score only 18 runs in that tie where Trent Boult single-handedly ran down the Indian batting order.

However, the talismanic run-scorer will wish to lead the team from the front. Virat Kohli is also in line to break a massive record to break a record held by Sachin Tendulkar for many years now. Kohli stands 57 runs short of completing 11,000 runs in ODI cricket. He will become the eighth batsman to reach the landmark and only the third batsmen from India after Sachin (18,426 runs) and Sourav Ganguly (11,363 runs).

Meanwhile, if Virat Kohli manages to reach the feat against New Zealand, he will then become the quickest batsman to the milestone. Kohli will reach the landmark in 222 innings while Sachin took 276 innings to get to the mark.
