The Indian skipper Virat Kohli has raised concern on the rising issues of Zing bails in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019. The zing bails once again made headlines in the ongoing tournament when they refuse to come off the stumps. Jasprit Bumrah had bowled to David Warner when the ball took an inside edge to hit the stumps. However, the zing bails did not come off.

In fact, this was not the first time when the zing bails have been adamant to lose connection with the stumps. The zing bails which weigh heavier than the wooden bails have not come off the stumps on five occasions in this World Cup.

There is a strong bond between zing bails and stumps.

South Africa’s Quinton de Kock, Sri Lankan Dimuth Karunaratne, West Indian Chris Gayle and Mohammad Saifuddin of Bangladesh have already had the rub of the green. Thus, the ICC needs to step in and take the required measures to come up with the solution.

“I haven’t seen that happen so many times in the past,” Kohli told reporters at a briefing.

“I’m sure no team would like seeing stuff like that when you actually bowl a good ball and then you don’t get the guy out, the ball hits the stump and the lights don’t come on, or the lights come on and the bail comes back on to the stump.”

On the other hand, the former players have also shown their concern regarding the same. Former England captain Nasser Hussain and former pacer Shoaib Akhtar took to their Twitter handle to share their thoughts.

Shoaib Akhtar wrote in his Tweet, “Today is the 5th instance of ball hitting the stumps and bails not falling.

5th instance, WITHIN this World Cup.

What’s going on?? ??

In my entire life, i have not seen 5 instances like this, let alone in the space of 10 days or a tournament!!

Meanwhile, we had seen similar instances when the zing bails did not come off in the Indian Premier League. Hence, the issue needs International Cricket Council attention. The sooner they can come with the solution, the better it would be for the game.

Zing bails flashes light when the bails lose connection with the stumps. However, it is also noted on many occasions that the light has flashed but the bails have bounced back to the stumps. Oh well, it is rightly said, “It is a batsmen’s game and the bowlers can keep scratching their heads before ICC wakes up to this”.
