Former Indian National Cricket Team skipper MS Dhoni stunned the fans when he set the field for opposition side Bangladesh while batting during the World Cup warm-up game on May 28 at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff. Meanwhile, India banked on centuries from Dhoni and KL Rahul and an excellent effort from the bowlers to seal a comfortable victory.

Vintage Dhoni was on show against Bangladesh

Batting first, Bangladesh reduced India to 102 for four after Mashrafe Mortaza won the toss and elected to bowl first. But a 164-run partnership between MS Dhoni and KL Rahul ensured India post a mammoth total on the scoreboard. Both of them reached their individual centuries and dominated the Bangladesh bowling attack. They played their shots at will and looked in ominous touch, much to the relief of the management.

During that blistering innings, MS Dhoni decided to help Bangladesh in setting the field as Mashrafe Mortaza & Co were struggling to stop the free flow of runs from his bat. He stopped the bowler from bowling to show the fielder his position when he looked in confusion about his placement. Sabbir Rahman who was bowling the 46th over obeyed Dhoni’s instructions and changed the fielder. This was a very first instance of this kind the cricket world has ever seen.

Soon after the incident took place, the fans couldn’t keep calm and praise MS Dhoni on social media. Many called it the best thing that has happened in the World Cup so far.

Here is how Twitter reacted:

Meanwhile, the bowlers also did an outstanding job to contain Bangladesh on a flat wicket. Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav returned with three wickets each while Ravindra Jadeja returned with one to keep the Tigers at bay. However, it was Jasprit Bumrah who started the proceedings removing Soumya Sarkar. Virat Kohli will be mighty happy with the effort of his boy as India went home with a 95-run victory.
