ICC World Cup 2019: Wax Statue of Virat Kohli Revealed at Lords

The stage is all set for the ICC World Cup 2019 opener between host England and South Africa at the Kennington Oval in London. Meanwhile, ahead of the curtain-raiser, Madame Tussauds unveiled Indian skipper Virat Kohli’s wax statue at the Lord’s Cricket Ground to mark the start of the marquee event.

The talismanic run-scorer will enter the World Cup as the top-ranked ODI batsman. The wax statue will be on display at Madame Tussauds from Thursday until July 15 remaining at the museum for the duration of the tournament. The figure is dressed in official Indian kit as well as shoes and gloves donated by the sportsman himself. From Thursday onwards, Virat Kohli will sit alongside legends such as Usain Bolt, Sir Mo Farah and fellow Indian cricket star Sachin Tendulkar.

The General Manager at the Madame Tussauds, Steve Davies said that is the best time to reveal the new figure of Virat Kohli in association with the historic Lord’s.

“We hope that cricket fans will enjoy not only watching their hero on the pitch but taking to the crease with him here at Madame Tussauds London,” he said.

Tarah Cunynghame, Head of Retail & Tours at Lord’s Cricket Ground stated that Lord’s is the best place to unveil one of the brightest cricketing stars of this generation, Virat Kohli. He also said that the World Cup fever has already set as the fans are coming to the ground and enjoying a tour of Lord’s and around the MCC Museum.

Meanwhile, all eyes will be on Virat Kohli as he leads the Indian team on June 5 against South Africa at Southampton for their tournament opener. India will enter the tournament as one of the favourites and will hope the set the tone from the first game itself.
