ICC World Test Championship: India Maintain Top Position Following Convincing Victory Against South Africa

After incredible victory at Visakhapatnam, the Indian National Cricket Team bagged 160 points in their kitty to take the top spot in the ICC World Test Championship Points Table. It was a fine victory for India, as they rattled the defense of South Africa with ease on Day 5.

India gained 40 points from Visakhapatnam Test:

A win in the Vizag Test has got India 40 points and helped them maintain a 100 percent record in the World Test Championship. After a clean sweep in the away series against the West Indies, India began their home series with a win against South Africa.

Indian bowlers, led by Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja, led the charge on day 5 as the hosts trampled South Africa by 203 runs after lunch on the final day.

There was resistance offered by Dane Peidt and Senuran Muthusamy for the 9th wicket, but then Shami came back into the attack and finished off the job by claiming the final couple of wickets. With this win, India bagged 40 points and continue to lead the World Test Championship points table with 160 points.

On the other hand, the Proteas, after the loss, are sitting on the sixth spot, ahead of the Windies. On the whole, South Africa have not opened their account but lost only one game.

Apart from India and South Africa, Sri Lanka and New Zealand are ahead of The Ashes rivals – Australia and England – with 60 points each after their two-match series ended in a 1-1 draw.

England and Australia won 48 points for winning two matches each and eight each for the second Test since a draw gives teams one-thirds of the points at stake in a match. On the whole, Bangladesh and Pakistan are yet to play a single game while Windies and South Africa have zero points.
