If He Was Not Playing For India, He Would Have Had At Least 200 Test Wickets, Says Kuldeep Yadav's Coach

Kapil Pandey, coach of Kuldeep Yadav, has urged Team India to give the wrist spinner more chances in Test cricket. The left-arm spinner has become an integral part of Team India’s limited-overs teams but the same cannot be said about the Test team.
Kuldeep Yadav made his Test debut in early 2017 but has played only 8 Tests so far. What is even more baffling is that he has done really well in those eight games. When he picked up a five-wicket haul in the historic Sydney Test in January last year, India coach Ravi Shastri declared that Kuldeep Yadav would be the first name amongst spinners on India’s team sheet in Test matches played overseas.
But the reality is different. He did not feature in any of the two Tests in New Zealand earlier this year. In fact, he has not played a Test since starring in the Sydney Test. And as Kuldeep Yadav fights to win his place back in the Test team, his coach believes the spinner should get more chances.
Pandey, who has represented Services in first-class cricket, reckoned the chinaman bowler could be a deadly weapon in Test cricket too if given a chance consistently. He even said that Kuldeep Yadav would have already picked up 200 Test wickets if he were playing for any other team.
“Kuldeep’s performance in white-ball cricket is outstanding but I feel he has bowled his best in the six Tests that he has played so far, taking 24 wickets. He can be a true match-winner in Test cricket if persisted with,” Pandey told mid-day.
He took five wickets in his last Test [against Australia at Sydney in 2019]. He should get more chances in Test cricket. If he was not playing for India and representing any other country, he would have had at least 200 Test wickets under his belt,” he added.
