If I Get Selected for the Ranji Trophy, I Will Give my 100% - Yashasvi Jaiswal

The under-19 sensation can be a next big thing for India. The southpaw Yashasvi Jaiswal, hailing from a small village in Mumbai came through the ranks to find a place in the Indian team for the Under-19 squad that toured Sri Lanka.

However, being a budding cricketer, Jaiswal hasn’t got much publicity than his teammate Arjun Tendulkar, son of Sachin Tendulkar.

Yashsvi Jaiswal later made a mark with his impressive tallies for India. He bailed out India with his match-winning knocks eventually, to see his side lift the trophy.

The flamboyant batsman quoted he is happy for knocking the match-winning scores for India. Speaking of his career, the youngster added he was working hard after getting dropped from the team initially.

He went on thank his coach for letting him come out of all the sorts and perform for the team. Yashasvi Jaiswal is confident of putting up a good show in the coming tournaments to grow his stature as a player.

After I was dropped post the first two games, I put in extra focus during practice sessions. I was under a little bit of pressure, but I was confident that if I get an opportunity, I will give my 100%. I’m thankful to (WV) Raman (coach for the tour) sir and the team management, who backed me for this crucial match and promoted me as an opener. I’m happy that I contributed to the team winning the series,” Jaiswal tells TOI.

Coming from a poor background is also an advantage because then, you don’t have anything to lose. Also, it makes me more determined to work harder, as I don’t have more options in life, apart from playing cricket. Cricket is my life, and I know that I can achieve my goal only by delivering good performances,” he added.

The stupendous performances in the under-19 team might bring him to the radar of Ranji Trophy selection.

The youngster added he idolises Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli and Wasim Jaffer for their work. Luckily, Jaiswal is playing with Wasim Jaffer for Indian oil.

”I am lucky that I am playing alongside Wasim Jaffer. My job is to score runs and take wickets and try to contribute for my team whichever I play. It’s up to selectors now. But if I get the opportunity to play in the Ranji Trophy, I’ll give my best,” he infered while speaking to Times of India.

However, Yashsvi Jaiswal did his best to get selected for a higher level. The rest of the decision will be in the hands of the selectors to push his career for newer heights.
