I'm Sure Maxwell Will Have a Long Career with Australia - Darren Lehmann

Darren Lehmann has recently pointed out to the outstanding domestic form of Cameron White, as the simple reason to get a nod over out-of-form Glenn Maxwell.
Notably, veteran White replaced injured Chris Lynn in ODI squad against England. White earned a shocking call beating out-of-favor Maxwell as well as KFC Big Bash surprise packet D’Arcy Short to the spot.
34-year old White had regularly dismissed his chances of returning to the international scene, having to not appeared for Australia in any format since November 2014. White notched up 1,147 runs at 54.62 in 50-overs format over the past four summers. He also had an impressive start to the Big Bash League scoring 285 runs at 53.60, making his way into the national squad.
“Selection is always tough, as we know, and there are so many different views out there. But Cameron White has been fantastic for three or four summers with Victoria in the one-day arena, and he’s started really well in the Big Bash. He’s in good form, and that’s what we want,” Lehmann said on ABC program Offsiders.
Lehmann dismissed that Smith’s public comments on Maxwell made it impossible for the Victorian to get selected. Lehman further banished any notion of a culture clash between Maxwell and Smith, or anyone else in the national set-up.
47-year old Lehmann is committed to change Australia’s statistics in ODI cricket over the past 12 months. However, he feels Maxwell needs to go back to domestic cricket and force his way to the national team.
“Glenn over the last 20 games has averaged 22, so that’s not good enough for a man of his talent. We want him to go back (to domestic cricket), play really well, force his way back into the side, and if he does that then I’m sure he’ll have a long career with Australia,” Lehmann added.
Lehmann further admitted they are nor ruling out Maxwell, but he needs to perform well.
“He played very well in the last couple of BBL games, made a couple of the fifties and looked in good touch. But Cameron’s above him at the moment. He’ll get his chance, and I’m sure he’ll be back soon,” Lehmann concluded.
