Making a debut in the International cricket, every cricketing individual would like to make the most of the opportunity. Much to the same, Shikhar Dhawan also expected to score a century on his debut but unfortunately, dismissed on duck.
Dhawan donned the India colors against Australia in an ODI in Kochi, but the debut didn’t go down well, as he was dismissed by Clint McKay for a two-ball duck as India were looking to chase down 290 runs. They did it thanks to a century from Virat Kohli and fifties from Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina, but for Dhawan, it was a tough pill to swallow.

I went back laughing – Shikhar Dhawan
Shikhar Dhawan subsequently lost his spot in the Indian squad and regained it in the series against West Indies six months later. He once again found himself out of the team after scoring 69 runs in four games. However, he made a strong comeback in the side in Champions trophy 2013 and cemented his spot as an opener alongside Rohit.

Dhawan recently appeared on the chat show Aap ki Adalat, hosted by India TV’s Chairman and Editor-In-Chief, Rajat Sharma and talked about his preparation for the debut and how he spend the sleepless night before his big day.
“When I was about to make my debut, I was switching sides the night before and couldn’t sleep. My dream was to play for India and now I have reached there. So I could not sleep all night. As I could not sleep all night, I was getting worried about how the energy would last all day. When I woke up in the morning, it was raining and the match was cancelled. Then I took a sleeping pill to sleep the night before the next match,” Dhawan said in an interview.

“When I got out for 0 on my ODI debut, I went back laughing. It was disappointing because I imagined myself scoring a century,” Dhawan recalled when asked about nerves ahead of his ODI debut,” he added.
However, now, Shikhar Dhawan has become a regular in the Indian National Cricket Team and scoring runs more often than not for the team. Currently, he is out of the Test cricket team and will be looking to show his class in the upcoming T20I series.
