Bangladesh’s opening batsman Imrul Kayes who has been included in the 16-man squad for the upcoming tri-series in Bangladesh is doubtful for the first two matches of the series. The series also includes Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka and is scheduled to begin on 15th January with the hosts taking on Zimbabwe. However, Kayes did have a net session and will take part in the series only after full recovery from his injury.
Bangladesh Cricket Board official doctor Debashish Chowdhury has stated that no decision can be taken on Kayes’s participation in the first Test yet and he also said that Kayes had a net session and didn’t face many problems while training.
Chowdhury said:
“It will be not right to comment now whether he can play the first match or not. There is still time. We will see. Imrul batted in the nets yesterday. He didn’t face much problem. But while playing match, batting is not the only thing. He has to field for 50 overs too. We have to be aware of that. We still have few days left, now lets see what happens.”
Bangladesh team has been forced to drop some of the experienced players like Taskin Ahmed and out of form opening batsman Soumya Sarkar. The likes of Mominul Haque, Shafiul Islam and Liton Das have also missed out the cut in the squad. However, left-arm fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman and batsman Anamul Haque have also been included in the squad after their impressive performances in the domestic circuit.
