India needed only three wickets to seal the tie and they took almost nine overs in the first session to clean off the tail. Umesh Yadav completed his five-wicket haul as they pocketed the series without any difficulties. This speaks volumes about India’s dominance in this format of the game. The fast bowlers accounted for 33 wickets as compared to five by the spinners which shows that the times are changing.

Alongside the pacers, who hogged most of the limelight, Mayank Agarwal scored a double hundred while Virat Kohli brought his 27th Test century in this match. This Indian team is certainly the one to beat for the other sides across the globe.

Rohit Sharma hogged the headlines with his spectacular batting at the top-order in the series against South Africa. But the dazzling opener failed to replicate his performances in this series against Bangladesh. Rohit managed to score only six runs in the first Test followed by 21 in the second. However, this should not be alarming for the selectors as he can bounce back at any point in time.

MAYANK AGARWAL (8/10)

Mayank Agarwal, since making his debut, has provided solidity in the top-order. He has already registered his second double hundred only in his eighth Test match. Agarwal looks to be India’s long-term solution in the red-ball format. Although he failed to make the most of the opportunity in the historic day-night Test, Agarwal will look to bounce back soon in the next game.

CHETESHWAR PUJARA (5.5/10)

Cheteshwar Pujara has been the backbone of India’s batting in red-ball format for quite a few years now. The Saurashtra batsman has scored two half-centuries in the two innings he has batted. Pujara scored 54 runs in the first Test and followed it up with another knock of 55 in Kolkata. However, the cricketer has failed to convert the starts into a big knock. Pujara will hope to make it big with the bat in the series to follow.

VIRAT KOHLI (7/10)

Records and Virat Kohli seem to flow hand in hand. After a rare failure in Indore, the India skipper was back in his elements bringing his 27th Test century in front of a full house at the Eden Gardens. Kohli looked in sublime touch while playing those cover-drives as he overtook Ricky Ponting in the list of most Test centuries by an international skipper.

AJINKYA RAHANE (6/10)

Ajinkya Rahane, who was in the firing line ahead of the start of the home season, has finally found his way. The middle-order has looked confident in his stroke and has been the most consistent batsmen of all. He scored a fifty and a century against South Africa and backed it with two more half-centuries against Bangladesh. However, Rahane will now look to convert the starts into big knocks from the next match onwards.

RAVINDRA JADEJA (4/10)

Ravindra Jadeja has improved his batting manifolds which are giving India the cushion of playing three seamers in home conditions. Jadeja has made useful contributions with the bat but has been relatively silent with the ball amidst all the dominance by the fast bowlers. He has been India’s no 1 all-rounder for quite some time and the veteran cricketer will stand up with the ball when his team need the most.

WRIDDHIMAN SAHA (5/10)

Wriddhiman Saha has hogged most of the limelight with his outstanding display of wicket-keeping on his return. It was no difference in this series for the Bengal wicket-keeper batsman. While there remains doubt over his batting but Saha is currently the best wicket-keeper on the planet. He has grabbed spectacular catches diving on his right and left and will continue the be India’s first choice in red-ball cricket.

RAVICHANDRAN ASHWIN (5/10)

Ravichandran Ashwin has had a very limited role to play in the series with the pace trio of Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma, and Umesh Yadav doing the bulk of the job. He returned with five wickets in Indore as India knocked Bangladesh by an innings and 130 runs but went wicketless in the day-night Test as the fast bowlers dominated the proceedings.

UMESH YADAV (8/10)

Umesh Yadav has been electrifying with the ball as he cleaned off the tail in the first session of the third day of the second Test to script India’s win. Besides, he has done exceedingly well throughout the series which will give him confidence for the matches to follow. Umesh returned with 12 wickets in this series including a five-wicket haul.

ISHANT SHARMA (9/10)

Ishant Sharma has excelled each of his last performance and continues to dazzle even at this age. He picked up a brilliant five-wicket haul in the first innings of the historic day-night Test in Kolkata and then backed it up with another notable performance in the second essay. The tall and lanky pacer will continue to keep up his form with the ball as India aim to extend their lead at the top of the ICC World Test Championship.

MOHAMMED SHAMI (8.5/10)

Mohammed Shami has been India’s finest fast bowlers in the longer formats. He has been perfect swung the ball in both directions and have picked wickets at regular intervals. The Bengal fast bowler claimed nine wickets in total despite having a silent game in terms of wickets in the pink-ball Test. Shami will hope to use this confidence in the limited-overs for the upcoming West Indies series.
