India tormented the young Afghanistan side by a gargantuan margin of an innings and 262 runs. Thus, the number one side was too strong for the inexperienced Afghan team.

Interestingly, this is the first time that India has won a Test under two days. Furthermore, the win of an innings and 262 runs is the biggest inning win for India. Their previous best was against Bangladesh when they won the match by an innings and 239 runs in 2007 at Mirpur.

India had scored 474 runs in their first innings. However, the tourists could only manage 109 and 103 in both their innings.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan had shown a good fightback in the final session of the first day. However, their batting collapsed today like a house of cards. No batsman was able to get going and Afghanistan inexperience was clearly palpable.

India proved to be too strong for Afghanistan.

Earlier in the day, India was able to get to a competitive total of 474 after a good knock of 71 runs from Hardik Pandya.

Ravichandran Ashwin was the chief destroyer as he scalped four wickets in the first innings. Ishant Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja took two wickets each in the first innings.

Furthermore, it was a similar story for the Afghanistan batsmen in the second innings. Umesh Yadav jolted the Afghan team with early blows. The fast bowler scalped three wickets to put the visitors on the backfoot.

Moreover, Ravindra Jadeja ran through the middle order of the visitors. Jadeja took four wickets in the second innings.

On the other hand, Afghanistan’s southpaw batsman Hashmatullah Shahidi showed some resistance with the bat. The left-hander scored an unbeaten 36 runs off 88 balls in the second innings.

Thus, Afghanistan first outing in the Test cricket ended on a bad note. However, it must have been a good experience for the Afghan players to play their maiden Test match. Thus, Afghanistan has a lot of work to do in their red ball form.

Shikhar Dhawan was awarded the Man of the match for his blistering hundred in the first innings.
