It was a thoroughly professional performance by the home team in all three departments. The visitors will surely learn from this match and what it takes to play top class Test-playing a nation in Tests. It was for the first time that India managed to beat their opposition inside the 2nd day of a Test match in India.

On the opening day of the Test match, it was superb innings from the blade of Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay which got them off to a brilliant start. After a 168-run opening partnership, India lost Dhawan.

However, it wasn’t before the southpaw became the 1st Indian to smash a century inside lunch of the opening day of a Test match. He scored 107 for 96 deliveries which studded with 19 fours and three sixes.

In the 2nd half, it was Ravindra Jadeja who took the onus on himself to finish off the job for the hosts. He bagged four wickets while Ishant chipped in with a couple. Umesh also bagged a wicket and bowled in right areas. He revealed in a post-match interview that the wicket was a bit on the slower side.

Umesh says India can carry confidence to England tour,

“It is easier to swing the new ball first up, so I was just sticking to my basics. The wicket was a little slow and we wanted to bowl up to the stumps to swing the ball.

We knew that we have only one Test before England so this was a trial run. It finished quickly and couldn’t get many overs in, but we can carry the confidence of this Test match to England for sure,” Umesh said.
