The India National Cricket Team drew the first blood in the Australia ODIs – winning the first match in Hyderabad by six wickets. The Virat Kohli-led team has now taken a one-nil lead in the five-match ODIs. Though there were a few match-winning performances from the Indian players, the form of Shikhar Dhawan with the bat and Vijay Shankar with the ball has kept the camp worried.

As the game got over with ten balls to spare, Cricket Addictor brings you team India’s players’ ratings for the Hyderabad ODI.

Team India’s Players’ Ratings

Rohit Sharma (6/10)

Team India’s opener, Rohit Sharma was far from being his best at the field today. As India was chasing 237, Rohit’s input didn’t leave them in a better spot either. Though he scored 37 runs, including five fours – the right-hander took 66 balls. Also, how he got out did not leave a good taste for the fans in Hyderabad.

Shikhar Dhawan (1/10)

The only batsman to get out on a duck in the first ODI in Hyderabad, Shikhar Dhawan didn’t take any points home. The left-handed batsman, much like Aaron Finch, has struggled to hit runs of late. Even in the previous T20I in Bengaluru, Dhawan took 24 balls but scored on 14 runs. However, knowing he lacks confidence at the moment, not sure for how long will he stick around in the side for this series.

Virat Kohli (7/10)

India’s captain and the best batsman in the world, Virat Kohli scored 44 off 45 balls in the first ODI in Hyderabad. The right-hander came in early, as Dhawan departed on a first-ball duck and played the anchor innings from there on. Off the two players, he and Rohit, Virat was the aggressive one; as he hit six fours and one six during his stay at the crease. However, Virat couldn’t convert the start and got out when India needed him the most.

Ambati Rayudu (5/10)

India’s middle-order had struggled to get going when their top three had failed to deliver. Even in this case, the situation didn’t change; as when the pressure fell on the shoulders of Ambati Rayudu, he tumbled. In Hyderabad, Rayudu scored 13 off 19 balls – hitting two fours. Though he had been tipped to bat at no.4 at the World Cup, his recent outing has put him under pressure to get more consistent.

MS Dhoni (8/10)

The veteran MS Dhoni had an eventful evening. Coming off from a brilliant outing in the Bengaluru T20I, he didn’t get off guard in the Hyderabad ODI. Behind the wickets, MS took one catch and affected one stumping too. With the bat in hand, he was as clinical as anyone in the game of cricket. Doing what he does best, Dhoni rotated the strike brilliantly and later hit some fours to provide the finishing touches.

Kedar Jadhav (8.5/10)

Very much an essential part of India’s limited-overs setup, Kedar Jadhav made his presence felt during the Hyderabad ODI. Sticking to his reputation of a man with a ‘golden arm’, Jadhav did provide a breakthrough in the name of Marcus Stoinis. When he had come out to bat, Jadhav had provided ample support to Dhoni, only to see the pair prospering and helping India win the game with six wickets in hand. Jadhav remained unbeaten on 81 off 87 deliveries.

Vijay Shankar (4/10)

The India all-rounder, Vijay Shankar didn’t have the best of outings in the first ODI. With the ball in hand, Shankar leaked runs – going for 22 in three overs at 7.33 without taking a wicket. Not only this, he made a few errors on the field too – resulting in Australia collecting more runs in those situations. However, his only contribution was a fantastic catch he took to get rid of Usman Khawaja.

Ravindra Jadeja (6/10)

After missing out on Australia and New Zealand ODIs, India all-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja got a chance in the Hyderabad match. At first, he looked like picking up a wicket, but it didn’t happen. Though he was economical, giving away 33 runs in ten overs at 3.3, Ravindra Jadeja didn’t leave an impact.

Kuldeep Yadav (7.5/10)

Kuldeep didn’t play the T20Is and India got blanked at the hands of Aussies. Meanwhile, he returned in style only to keep India’s nose in front in the ODIs. In his ten overs in the Hyderabad ODI, Kuldeep Yadav conceded 46 runs but picked two wickets as well. Apart from getting well-settled Usman Khawaja, the unorthodox spinner got the better of Peter Handscomb.

Mohammed Shami (8/10)

The best Indian bowler on the day, Mohammed Shami picked two wickets in the Hyderabad ODI. Though he leaked a few runs at the fag end of the innings, Shami had brought curtains on Maxwell’s innings; who was looking to stir Australia to a decent total at one stage. Earlier, Shami made the new ball do the talking – not allowing the batsmen to go after him.

Jasprit Bumrah (6.5/10)

The recent memory of Jasprit Bumrah will delight every Indian fan – the Vizag T20I, where he gave away just two runs and took as many wickets in the penultimate over. However, the equation altered during the first ODI against Australia in Hyderabad. Despite picking captain Aaron Finch in the first over, it took Bumrah nine more overs to get his second wicket in Nathan Coulter Nile. In the meantime, he conceded runs more than he often does – 60 in ten overs.
